Larry R. Craig

1949-2022

Larry Craig, 72, of Edmond, passed away on Saturday September 17, 2022.  He was born on October 29, 1949, in Oklahoma City to Raymond and Clara Craig.

Larry was an only child and graduated from Putnam City High School in 1967. He attended Oklahoma State University and acquired a psychology degree.  While there he met the love of his life for over 50 years, Pam Craig, and they married right after college in 1971.  In his early life he worked for the Boy Scouts of America and had a passion for the outdoors and wild places.  For most of his career, he worked as an insurance adjuster and arson investigator.  He then had his own private investigation and insurance business, which started him on the path of lifelong avid coffee drinking!!

Early in his life Larry was called to be a public servant.  In 1989, he graduated as a Reserve Deputy from the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.  He worked with the Sheriff’s Office on his free nights and weekends until 2018, for a total of 29 years.  He enjoyed supporting the Sheriff’s Office including working for weeks during the OKC bombing, transporting prisoners, and patrolling.  He also spent a lot of time supporting the public during and after natural disasters, during parades, and at the County Fair.  He was honored to serve his community.  While home he enjoyed working on his cars, watching a good western like High Noon, working endlessly on the pool, and Pam’s good cooking.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Clara and his wife Pam Craig.  He is survived by his two daughters and their families: Jennifer and Troy Hensiek of Montana, and Julie and Matt Angala of Washington.  He also has four beautiful granddaughters, Emily Hensiek, and three Angala girls Molly, Annie and Maggie who will continue his legacy of service and sincere appreciation for Pam’s legacy of delicious cooking.  He will be immensely missed and will forever be in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, Prosperity Bank has opened two accounts and can accept monetary donations on behalf of the lost and injured Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Sgt. Bobby Swartz (EOW 8-22-22) and Dep. Mark Johns.  The Sgt. Robert Swartz Memorial Fund will directly benefit the Swartz Family, and the Dep. Mark Johns Recovery fund will help defray some expenses associated with his recovery.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Matthews Funeral Home Edmond, OK. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022 at First United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery Edmond, OK.
