Betty Marie Kennedy

1936 – 2022

Betty Marie “Sheffield” Kennedy, aged 86, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022. She was born in Lane, Oklahoma on April 16, 1936, to Jewel and Pauline Sheffield.

On May 20, 1955, Betty married Roe Dale Kennedy. They remained in love for 67 years.

For the first 20 years of her married life, Betty was a homemaker, taking care of her children full-time. After her children were grown, she began her career. In 1978, she received her real estate license, and later, her brokerage license. In 2007, she earned her CRS and GRI certifications through the Realtors National Marketing Institute and the National Association of Realtors, respectively. She retired from Local Oklahoma Bank as a real estate post-closing auditor.

All her life, Betty enjoyed all forms of music. Growing up, she played boogie ragtime music on the piano, while her daddy played the fiddle. For many years, she sang in the church choir and continued to play piano for her family.

Betty was a woman of strong faith and dedicated her life to serving The Lord. Using her passion for education and teaching, she taught Sunday school for over 50 years.

Later in life, Betty and Roe spent much of their time traveling, seeing 46 U.S. states and 15 countries. Betty’s favorite places were the Holy Lands and Areopagus, or “Mars Hill” in Athens, Greece. She was also a member of the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Choctaw Nation.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her six siblings. She is survived by her husband, Roe Kennedy; daughter Reba Hudson (Kurte); daughter Donna Kennedy; son Michael Kennedy (Kevin); along with her grandchildren; Audrey Lee (Dustin); Grant Hudson (Rachel); and Sarah Cooley. As well as her precious great grandchildren; Laynie, Jackson, Luke, Finley, and Hayes.

Betty will always be remembered for her patience, grace, and steadfast faith.

Public visitation will be held Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at Matthews Funeral Home.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 21st, 2022, at Spring Creek Assembly of God in Edmond, Oklahoma beginning at 2:00pm. Interment is to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

  1. Betty was such a sweet lady. I enjoyed knowing her while growing up at 1st A/G.
    She was always a peacemaker, along with her kind husband.
