Wylie E. Morton Sr.
May 18, 1940 – May 22, 2017
Wylie E. Morton Sr, 77, of Edmond, OK, passed away on May 22, 2017. Wylie was born on May 18, 1940 in Edmond, OK to Joseph Bee Morton and Eleanor (Camblin) Morton. Wylie went to school in Edmond through his junior year and got his GED at the age of 50.
Wylie worked for Van’s Bakery from the age of 16 until 1964 in Edmond. After 3 months of knowing each other, Wylie married Maxine Smith on November 25, 1964 in Guthrie, OK. They had grown up together in the Nazarene Church at Waterloo, but didn’t know each other or realize it until they got together. They moved to Edmond for a short while and then left for Colorado for 5 ½ years.
Wylie was a machinist most of his life and a volunteer fireman for 18 years at the Oak Cliff Fire Department. Wylie was one of the original firefighters to start Oak Cliff Fire Department and the first to retire from there and also got to retire his badge. He enjoyed his family and fishing and was a member of the Edmond First Church of the Nazarene.
Wylie is survived by his wife, Maxine Morton of the home, daughter, Janette Frederick of Camdenton, MO, son, Wylie Morton Jr. and wife Jennifer of Moore, OK, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 brother and 4 sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and his son-in-law Kenny Frederick.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 25th from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Edmond First Church of the Nazarene with burial to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery Edmond, OK.
