Weta Elva Thomas

1927-2023

In loving memory of Weta Elva (Watkins, Hays) Thomas, born on January 13th, 1927, in Madill, Oklahoma, to Albert and Lelah Watkins. She peacefully passed away on August 1st, 2023. Weta attended Oklahoma A&M for Business, which she fondly referred to as her “Mrs. Degree”.  She had a fulfilling career and retired from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.

Weta was preceded in death by her spouses Merle D. Hays DDS and Henry E. Thomas, her brothers Harold Gene “Doc” Watkins, Denver Watkins, and sister Joetta Kopczynski, daughter Leslie R. (Hays) Buxton, grandson Donald Paulson Jr., and stepson Matthew F. Thomas. She leaves behind a cherished legacy; Millie (Hays) Shores from her first marriage, and stepchildren, Henry D. Thomas, Mary (Thomas) Ryan (Mike), Paul Thomas (Jennifer), Randolph Thomas (Trish), Samuel Thomas (Tina), son-in-law M. Thomas Buxton, sisters June Rollins and Marci Ann Jones.

Her life was filled with love and joy through her 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Weta’s joyful spirit brought people together and she was always grateful for everything in life. Weta had many passions, including gardening, composting, recycling, bird watching, wine, tennis, golf, and traveling. But above all, she cherished spending time with her family, whether at the beach, in the mountains, or simply giving back to her community through her dedicated years of volunteering for Mobile Meals.

A service to celebrate Weta’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Matthew’s Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Edmond Mobile Meals, a cause dear to Weta’s heart.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Weta is celebrating in heaven with many family members and loved ones. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
