Walter Murphy
1955-2015
Walter Ray Murphy of Edmond, Oklahoma died December 11, 2015. Born September 5, 1955 in El Paso, Texas. Attended Putnam City West and Oklahoma State University. He was the owner of WM Aviation Services, Wiley Post Airport.
Survivors include wife Carolyn (Steen) Murphy, daughter Madison Anne Murphy and son John Casey Murphy of the home; mother Marjorie Murphy of Great Bend, Kansas; father Jesse Murphy of Hardy, Arkansas; sisters: Donna Austin, husband Warren and son Hunter of Arlington, Texas; Kathy Pieri, husband Ronald, daughter Margaret, son Scott Walter of Highwood, Illinois. Sisters-in-law Sue Cowherd, Laura and Donna Steen; Brother-in-law Kim Cowherd; niece Jordan Cowherd; nephew Kyle Cowherd, wife Lauren and daughter Zorie; father and mother-in-law John and Anna Mae Steen, and life long friends, John Cotner and the Huff family. Many more friends and family who will miss him deeply.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the First Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up in Walter’s name at Bank SNB, 1601 S. Kelly Ave, Edmond.
I am saddened at the loss of Walter. He was a good friend, and will be missed.
Walter was a great guy and a wonderful father. I witnessed Walter cheer for Casy for several years during soccer games. Walter never missed a team event or team party. He was Casys biggest and loudest fan. He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
Everyday I still feel so sad at the loss of Walter. I truly find it hard to imagine the world without Walter’s humor, laugh, and especially his caring heart. Walter thank you for being my friend and brother for so many years. There’s definitely no one else like you! I know you’re cracking Daddy up like you always did! See you in the twinkling of an eye my dear friend.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Walter. I have not seen Walter since I left the Jet Center in Van Nuys Ca where we both worked in the mid 80’s. I often wondered where Walter went to over the years but as you can see he left an indelible impression on everyone he had contact with. What a great person Walter was to have known and I was fortunate to have worked with him for many years.

When I moved to Oklahoma and set up office at Wiley Post, Walter was one of the first I met. His office was across the hall from mine, and there was never a day he didn’t start with a smile and a good word to everyone. We shared many a conversation about family, it was clear he loved his. Politics? We complained a lot to each other. Airplanes? He knew them all, and had a wealth of information. You were a good friend Waldo, we are going to miss you. To your family, our prayers and condolences, may God bless you.

Carolyn, Madison amd Casey: my heart aches at the lost of Walter. I am with you in this great loss. He was a true friend, and wonderful colleague in the aviation business. We did some deals together, he took me to Guatemala (my first time there) with him and sent me down there several times after that. Even though we each had our own business we backed each other up. He would fill in for me and get me out of a bind, and I would do the same for him. We hardly ever ended a conversation without talking about family, even though I never met you Madison amd Casey, I feel like I know you! Madison at OSU and Casey in high school, Walter would stress about getting the right kinda car for You guys, and then he called me about where to get the engine rebuilt in Casey’s jeep a few months back. Waldo my comrade, and friend, my go to guy when I had a question about commanders! I would joke with him that he was the only guy in the business that knew more about commanders than I did! I am gonna miss you so much it hurts. My prayers and deepest condolences to you, his family.
Walter always brought a smile to all whenever he walked into the room! As a former colleague and friend, I shared a few memorable moments with Walter in our given profession as pilots. Most memorable of these times when as co-workers at Commander Aircraft Company, we had “lottery tickets” to share in the Commander’s Photo Shoot across the western USA with Paul Bowen and his photo crew! We had a blast! And sharing this time with Walter has always been one of my favorite memories in my own aviation career – I have always fondly remembered this and it always brings a smile to my face and reminds me why I love aviation! God Bless you Walt, I am so thankful that I shared a few brief but very memorable moments with you! “Supernovas” have a short existence and burn very hot and light up the skies, Walter was one of these unique people that touches others… He was a awesome guy to be around and I am proud to have called him my friend…
