Virginia – (Louise) Ruprecht – (McCown) Wellshear
1931~2023
Virginia Wellshear passed peacefully into eternal rest on October 27th, 2023, at her home in Edmond, Oklahoma. Her family was blessed with the opportunity to be by her side throughout her last week. She was called Ginny by her friends, was 92 and always young at heart with a beautiful smile.
Born on August 12, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to her parents Homer Albert Ruprecht and Marcella Reed (Steel) Ruprecht. After her birth her parents moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma which she referred to as home.
She attended Holland Hall, continuing at Central High School where she graduated. Undergraduate studies were at Western College for Women in Ohio, Oklahoma University and graduating from Tulsa University with her bachelor’s in education. She worked as a counselor in the Tulsa Public School System.
She loved to spend time with her family and friends, play tennis, swim, enjoyed watching sports and favoring basketball games at Oral Roberts University. She enjoyed traveling and had a vacation home in La Veta, Colorado.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, husband Charles and previous spouse Neill McCown.
She is survived by her brother Richard Steel Ruprecht, her son Robert McCown and wife Jeana Locke and son Jeffrey McCown and wife Diana.
She has 5 grandchildren. The sons of Robert are James (Jimmy) married to Sarah, Michael married to Stephanie, and Jeffrey. The daughters of Jeffrey and Diana are Brooke married to Jeremy Massengill, Brandi married to Jeremiah Esterline.
She has 3 great grandchildren. Haley McCown daughter of Michael, Hudson McCown son of Michael and Stephanie, Boone Steel Massengill son of Brooke and Jeremy.
Friends may contribute in her memory to the Parkinsons’s Foundation, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to their favorite charity.
A celebration of her life is scheduled for 3:30 Thursday, November 2nd, at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 South Kelly Avenue in Edmond, Oklahoma.
