hurst,_virginiaShe was born October 03, 1920 in Hamilton, MO and died March 07, 2013 at the age of 92 in Edmond, Oklahoma, having resided in Oklahoma City and Edmond for the last 63 years. She is survived by her children, Carol Copeland, Joe Schmidt and Fred Schmidt; Grand children Katy Thach, Ed Thach, Melissa Schmidt and John Schmidt; and great grand children Katherine, Anna, and Hayden Schmidt. She was predeceased in death by husbands, Joseph Schmidt and Carmel Hurst. She was raised in Kansas City, MO and started working at age 17 at Hall Brothers, which became Hallmark Cards. She continued to work for the next 75 years in various capacities until she passed. This included the Pratt and Whitney Engine Center, the primary engine supplier for the US Navy during WWII. She came to Oklahoma in 1950 and continued her business career. She qualified as a Certified Professional Secretary in 1969 and went on to receive Secretary of the Year in 1973. In 2000 she began her work as a Medical Transcriptionist, which she continued until her final illness. She retired three times, but returned to work. Her hobbies included love of animals and she spent many hours all her life devoted to their care. Another love was bridge where she attained Life Master status.Three words for summation of her life: learning, caring and participating. Memorials may be made to Spring Creek Assembly in Edmond Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be 10:00am Tuesday March 12, 2013 at Spring Creek Assembly of God in Edmond, Oklahoma

  1. Virginia was so brave when she changed professions and became a medical transcriptionist with our company. I remember the day she came to our home for an interview. Could not believe someone that age would start over again. She was so diligent in her work. It was so nice not have to fix her English!

    She will be so missed. She is up in heaven playing bridge!!!!!
