1944-2022
Verna Dell (Edwards) Black age 77, was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on September 6, 1944, and passed away on May 14, 2022 in Edmond Oklahoma. She lived a very faithful and compassionate Christian life and was a member of the North Texas Church of Christ, in Northlake, Texas at the time of her death.
Verna Graduated from Rich East High School, Park Forest, Illinois and attended one year at David Lipscomb University before transferring to Oklahoma State University where she received a Degree in Family Relations and Child Development. She worked part-time at various Childcare facilities and taught young children in Bible classes for many years. She shared her love of Jesus with the children in her classes. Caring for and serving her family was of upmost importance to her.
She enjoyed reading especially from the bible and to work various word puzzles. She enjoyed travelling with her husband to scenic areas throughout the country especially those areas with lots of colors, many formal gardens, fall foliage in the New England area, and mountain wildflowers in Colorado. Each winter and early spring see eagerly anticipated seeing large fields of Texas bluebonnets.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Delvin Errol Black. She is also survived by son Stephen Errol Black and his wife Jan of Edmond. Her grandchildren Brylee Black and Bradyn Black of Edmond, Oklahoma. She is also survived by a brother Roy V Edwards Jr and wife Carol of Oklahoma City, a sister Jean Teague and husband Glenn of Oklahoma City, and a sister Mary Phipps and husband Terry of Overland Park, Kansas, and several nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, May 18th at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater, Oklahoma. A memorial service is to be Scheduled at 2:00 PM Saturday May 21st at North Texas Church of Christ. Northlake, Texas.
