Todd Marcus Curtis

1965 – 2024

Todd Marcus Curtis, 58, a lifetime resident of Edmond, OK died surrounded by his family, on May 15th, 2024, after a heart event that he did not recover from.
Todd is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joan (Deason) Curtis, Daughter Caralyn Grace, and Josh Chica of Oklahoma City OK, son Josef Todd Curtis, daughter Emma Rosalee Curtis, and son John Alexander Curtis all residing in Edmond OK, his dear mother Rosalee Curtis of Albany OR. Sisters Lori and Danny Higginbottom of Newcastle OK. Candy and Brian Graham of New Braunfels TX. Jason Curtis and Rebecca Duce of Albany, OR. Many sibling in-laws, dear cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces, and nephews too many to mention.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gary Don Curtis, Cousin Mike Jones, Uncle Cecil Jones, Uncle HC Boswell, Aunt Jerry Chaney, Grandparents Margaret and William Curtis, Grandparents Robert and Leola Lankford.

Todd was born October 30,1965 in Oklahoma City at Integris Hospital and grew up in North Edmond. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1984, and later completed his bachelor’s in business administration at Southern Nazarene University in 1994. He became a 3rd Generation firefighter at the Edmond Fire Department at the age of 19 and retired as a Driver from that same department after 31 years of service to the citizens of Edmond.

Todd and Joan were married October 11, 1996, and had 4 beautiful children, and an amazing life of adventure. Todd and Joan are active members of Victory Church Edmond, where he served on the Tech Team, and anyplace anyone would ever ask. Todd was always first to volunteer. Todd loved to travel and was able to take his dream trip to Israel in 2021. He also went to London with the SFHS Marching Band and was a proud Band Dad! A few of his favorite trips were when he gave his daughter in marriage in Mexico and got certified to scuba, when he traveled with the kids one on one all over the US and when he and Joan got to cruise the Danube River. In his lifetime he traveled all over Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and spent several years driving all over the US and was so excited every time he found someplace new to explore. He loved to mess with his sisters and his kids. He loved his momma! He was a proud “Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License” holder, but rarely got to use it. He was always reading, learning, and listening to books. He read the bible every day.

Todd loved his family, but not more than he loved Jesus! Right after he got on the fire department, he realized death was a possibility and he went on the hunt to find out more about God. He met Jesus because his friend Joel Brentlinger shared the love of Christ through consistency and relationship. Todd always said knowing Jesus and being Jesus were 2 different things and he would just sit with people and calmly answer questions and quiet fears. If we could describe Todd in a nutshell, it would be quiet strength with a side of sarcasm. He loved the unlovable when no one else would. He would always say “Leaders lead to calm”, and that is who he was to his family. A leader, with quiet strength, that loved us the way Jesus loved us to the best of his ability. He was always trying to be better and left his family a legacy of laughter and joy.

There is no way to put the man Todd Curtis into a few words, as he changed so many people’s lives just by giving hugs and being kind. Todd, we will miss you, but we will see you again!

Public visitation will be held Monday, May 20, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with family present during this time to greet friends and guests.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Victory Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. Interment is to follow at Memorial Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

I am so sorry for your loss. It saddens me to hear of the passing of our dear friend and brother. Todd was a very kind hearted person he helped me through a very difficult situation last year and continued to make sure that everything was okay from time to time. I spoke with Todd a couple of days before this incident he caught me up on the wonderful things that Joan and children were doing. I had the pleasure of meeting Joan first whom I love dearly. I just want to say you both are a blessing from God.
Todd will be truly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. We all must make this journey. Todd collected his crowns here on earth which we all must do. He is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ where there is no more sickness or tears.

  2. This is so unreal. It always brought joy to my heart to see Todd in person and get one of his bear hugs. 🧸 My heart goes out to Joan and the kids, knowing just how much Todd loved them and wanted to draw nearer to them as he drew nearer to our Lord. His selfless service as a firefighter and his warrior’s heart made him bigger than life to me. ⚔️ It’s like losing my brother all over again. I am so thankful for the opportunity to know Todd and Joan over the past few years and I am thankful for their eternal friendship. ♥️ Remaining behind in this fallen world is a grief-filled burden we contend with. Now is when we cling to the Comforter, for the Promises of our Lord are worthy of our faith. 🕊️

Todd will be forever missed. Todd’s sense of humor was off the charts hysterical… His hugs were real, and he always saw the one…Thank you Father for the life of our brother Todd. We will continue to pray for Joan and their children during this difficult time, but we know God has given this family a great measure of faith and love to accompany them through this time. Todd and Joan —both transparent followers of Christ, who walked a real journey together for all to share in and take part-they have helped many of us along our journey with Christ, and for that, we are forever grateful!
Prayers of peace and comfort to you all!
    Love, the Novotnys

Though my chances to visit with Todd were all too rare in later years, our interaction while we were neighbors down the street in Pebble Creek was one of the most memorable parts of our years there. After my family and I moved to the east side of Edmond, I would reflect on those chances to just slow down a bit and talk with Todd, sometimes as our daughters would play together with Todd and Joan’s older daughter and son.
Of course he will be missed by those who had the privilege of interacting with Todd and his family in later years, but he will never be forgotten by people whose time around him was further back through the years.
Our hearts are broken for Joan and the kids.

Todd will be missed. I have many fond memories of him as 18 year olds camping, hiking, fishing, golfing and even clubbing. We went on a month long trip to Alaska in his 72 Nova. The car lived up to its Spanish meaning of nova on parts of that trip. I’ll always remember a lightning storm night camping in the Colorado mountains when he got a bad case of altitude sickness. I seriously thought he might not make it through that night. But next morning he was still kicking so we high tailed it to lower altitudes of Oklahoma. We grew apart with life but I will always have fond memories of adventures with him. Rest in peace friend.

I agree with early comments about how surreal this is. Todd was such a unique individual with a sharp mind who incessantly loved to learn new things. We had many conversations about unconventional topics, and I always came away having learned something new. I will miss that. I wonder what questions he is asking in Heaven now? He’ll probably have a lot to discuss when we meet him there!
You can tell the quality man he was by the way he led his family as a Christian father and husband; a well-loved wife and well adjusted children who have an amazingly tight family unit. Wish I could say the same!
I am so glad that I know that he is in heaven and those of us who have Yeshua/Jesus as our Savior, our attoning Sacrifice, will eventually get to see him again, healed and whole. Thankful that I had the privilege of knowing Todd. He will be missed.

Ah, Joan…my heart breaks for you and your children.
The world has lost one of a kind.
My first memory of Todd…he made every woman in the convention hall swoon!
You were receiving your award from Petra, when this dashing figure of a man in full turnout marched onto the stage and swept you up in his arms!
What adventures you and your love have been on.
    Whay joys you have shared.
My prayers are lifted for comfort in those amazing memories.

More than 25 years ago I had the wonderful privilege of living next door to Joan and Todd. It was just me and my mom but quickly they cared for me as family would. The front yard banter and over the fence fun never ceased. Truly wonderful neighbors. I moved away, but my mom stayed, and as their family grew, my mom’s relationship with them became one of her most cherished.
A few years ago my passed and it was Joan and Todd who showed up after 20years of not seeing them. There kids told me stories of growing up with my mom next door. Todd told hilarious stories at my mom’s memorial.
When I learned of the loss of Todd my heart broke along with everyone. What a tragedy for this family that loves so deeply. The joy and care just bursts between them. I know it’s that same love that will carry you through the pain. Todd is already so missed. Y’all are so loved.

    To the Curtis family,

Though I was never able to meet Todd in person, Joan spoke so highly of him – his life, his spirit and his testimony. Our hearts go out to the entire family during this incredibly difficult time. I pray the Lord Himself will wrap His arms of love around each of you, and we praise God that Todd’s eternal home is in heaven now with God. For all who believe, we will see him again – this is the wonderful hope of heaven. God bless you, Curtis family, from all of us at Smart Choice.

Going on 31 years now! Can’t believe I have to say goodbye to you now!
Met Joan first at my job @ Mercy Health Center. They two weren’t even married yet! They dated quite awhile then had a beautiful wedding, raised 4 wonderful children after that! Todd even found time to talk to me as a Father would to his daughter when the morning of MY wedding arrived. Meant the world to me when he did that, as my father was already deceased at the time. Never have forgotten it!!! Time has flown too fast!! I will miss him terribly!
    Love you Joan & children!!!
    What a LOVING(and patient) husband/father you’ve all had!
May the Joy of the Lord be YOUR strength!!!!
