Tom was born in Sacramento, California in 1922. He grew up in Berkeley, California where he graduated from Berkeley High School and was attending the College of Marin when World War II broke out. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and became a P-47 Fighter pilot. He served for three years flying out of England with the Eighth Air Force and as a flying instructor in Arizona and South Carolina.

After the war Tom attended the College of San Mateo and the University of California at Berkeley where he majored in Business Administration he married June Guntern in Burlingame, California in 1947 and spent the next 26 years in the Insurance Industry, the last 15 with Allstate Insurance Co. In 1973 he left Allstate and he and June purchased a resort motel, the Dawn-Breaker Motor Lodge in Door County, Wisconsin. They sold the motel in 1984 and retired to Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. In 1994 they moved to Edmond, Oklahoma.

Tom served on the Gibraltar School Board in Fish Creek, Wisconsin and was also elected Gibraltar Town Clerk. A member of the Baha’i Faith, Tom served as Chairman of the Local Spiritual Assemblies of Arlington Heights, Illinois and of Northern Door County, Wisconsin. He and his wife, June, were editors of the District Bahá’í News for Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan and were active teachers for the Door County Literacy Council. After moving to Edmond, Tom continued to be very active in the Bahá’í Faith and served on the Local Spiritual Assembly. Both he and his wife also served on the Board of Keep Edmond Beautiful Inc. Tom was Treasurer for many years and Vice President for two years. Tom and his wife were also involved in Interfaith activities believing that all of the major religions are at heart one and the same.

Having experienced the realities of war, Tom believed that the time for war has passed, and that mankind must learn to live together in peace and that this can happen when we come to the realization that we are all children of one God who speaks to us all at different times in history, if we but listen.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife June and he is survived by his four children, Tom Dunn Jr. ( and wife Debbie) of Iowa City, Iowa, Kari Dunn Buron (and husband Kevin) of St. Paul, Minn., Colleen Wisniewski (and husband Jimmy) of Roselle, Ill., Dr. Charles Dunn (and wife Beth) of Edmond, OK as well as nine wonderful grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Gracelawn Cemetery Edmond, OK.  A memorial service will be held Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Edmond Bahá’í  Center, 321 E. Campbell St.
