Thomas Edward Mattingly

1943-2023

Thomas Edward Mattingly  passed away the morning of November 20, 2023 at the age of 80 in Edmond, Oklahoma.

He was born on May 11, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri.  At five years old his family relocated to Monrovia, California where he grew up with his older sister and two younger brothers. Tom joined the Army in the 1960s where he was a Military Police Officer (MP), stationed in Germany. After his military service he went on to work as an Engineer at Garrett AiResearch in Torrance, California, where he bought a house and started a family. He soon found himself a single father raising his two daughters with the help of neighbors and friends.

Tom was a lovable nerd!  His favorite movie was Tangled, and he enjoyed shows like Star Trek, and Stargate SG1.  He provided his daughters a home that might have been sparse on material items, but full of laughter and love. In his later years Tom enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his grandkids; hosting birthday parties, introducing them to tennis, and his favorite food In N Out Burger.  Tom also loved bowling and playing poker every Tuesday night with his buddies.

Earlier this year he moved to Oklahoma to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.  He left this Earth peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. Tom is survived by daughters Angela and Emily, grandchildren Mia, Gwyneth and Jack, sister Ann Divine, and Brothers Chris and Joe Mattingly, as well as, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Our family is grateful to know that Thomas Mattingly is finally at peace. Services will be held at Matthews Funeral Home on November 29, 2023 at 2pm.  All are welcome!

    A BLANKET AND A BLESSING
Angela; your blanket, crafted in love, was a comfort to him. It was – and remains – a blessing to your dad because it made his time so peaceful knowing that you – through that blanket – were very close to him.
Emily, Michael, Jack, Gwen and Mia were – and are – a blessing to the memory of your dad/grandpa because you all did your very best to comfort him and were always very close to him.

A life has passed from our sight but never from our hearts.

    Memories remain.

    Uncle Joe, Teresa and Trevor
