1955 – 2023

Terra Lee Conlin was born in New Orleans, LA on December 20th 1955, to Sidney Marshall Groom and Thadda Hutchison Groom. She moved to Edmond in 1955 with her parents and siblings, and remained an Edmond resident until her passing on Sunday, September 17th 2023.

She was predeceased by her father, Sidney Marshall Groom, older sister, Cyndy Vogler Henry and younger brother, Marshall Thad Groom.  She is survived by her husband Jim Conlin, her mother Thadda H. Groom, her younger sister, Susan Jean O’Neal, her two sons, Benjamin Burton Brecht and Robert Troy Conlin, and her daughter, Laura Lee Wittrock along with six grandchildren and multiple nephews and nieces.

She grew up loving her parents, siblings and her horses. She left this earth a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She was the matriarch of her family and was at her very best and strongest when she was needed. Her guiding principles were Faith, Family, Grace and Integrity, and she was loved by all that knew her.

Terra graduated from Edmond High School as Valedictorian in 1974 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene.  She earned summa cum laude in 1979 from the University of Oklahoma.

She married her first husband, Martin Brecht of Edmond, in 1975, and they had three children: Aubrey Lynn, Benjamin Burton, and Laura Lee. She lost her first born, Aubrey Lynn, when she was two years old. It was at that point she made the decision not to be an MD because she knew she had to put her family first.

Terra continued to raise her children and work as a dental hygienist until she found and married her life partner, James Conlin of Oklahoma City, in 1983. Together, they had a son, Robert Troy. In 1990, Terra and Jim moved to Edmond to settle and build their family dream home in Walnut Ridge Estates, which serves as the family nest to this day. They were in love and devoted to each other for forty years.

Terra excelled in interior decorating and established deep, meaningful relationships in her neighborhood, town and church.  She was always held in high regard by those who knew her and strongly believed in grace and forgiveness, often leaning on Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”  She fully believes in the birth, the life and miracles of Jesus, and accepted His grace and forgiveness for all transgressions.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel.

Inurnment will immediately follow at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N Midwest Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
