1933-2019

Sylvia Lou Emma McDaniel passed away April 30th, 2019 at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born December 1, 1933 in Talihina, OK to Sy and Millie Bell. Her childhood was spent in the Talihina area where she attended Buffalo Valley High School. She left the area at 16 when she married the love of her life, Delbert McDaniel. They enjoyed 61 years together before his passing in 2010. Their life together took them to New Mexico, Texas, California, Colorado and back to Oklahoma in 1990. Sylvia had many jobs through the years, but her favorite was being a wife, mother, and grandmother or “Nanny” as she was called. She and Delbert ran a daycare out of their home for years and these children were also blessed by their love. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family meals and church social gatherings, sewing, road trips, impromptu camping trips, and shopping. She collected cookbooks, cookie jars, and decorative chickens. She loved visiting friends and family and kept in contact with siblings and cousins for as long as she could. Sylvia was a natural caregiver, was always quick to visit the sick, and took care of her elderly parents and her husband’s aunt for many years. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ and taught her children by example as well as words. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lee, four sisters, Kathy, Martha Gertrude, June, and Virginia, one infant grandson, Grant McDaniel, and her loving husband, Delbert. Survivors include two sons, Michael and wife Kayra of Saginaw, TX, David and wife Justine of Sanger, TX, two daughters, Deborah Dukes and husband Fred, and Elaine Kirby and husband Larry, all of Edmond. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. She served and loved her family and her God fiercely and will be missed beyond words.
