Sue Ann Beatrice Koonce
July 5, 1939 – December 11, 2020
Sue Ann was born at home in Pontiac, Michigan, on July 5, 1939, the second of three children born to Jesse M. Odle and Ina B (Wakefield) Odle. Sue attended public school in Pontiac, Michigan.
Sue Ann met her future husband, Randy, on August 6, 1954, while he was walking guard duty around a convoy of military trucks, near her home. A brief conversation lead to a lunch date, which resulted in additional dates and eventual engagement. The two were married on January 18, 1957. Randy remained in the military for over twenty years and Sue Ann adjusted to living at different assignments in several states and overseas; a new location almost every year. During those years Sue Ann raised three children, Laura, William and Michael, three times acting as both mother and father for a full year each time, while Randy was deployed to a combat location.
Many persons have honored the veterans who served but Sue Ann was the real hero, sacrificing so much to, keep her family together, fed and clothed, with extremely limited monetary funds; while her husband served his Army career.
In her later years Sue Ann worked in administrative positions at a bank, until she retired and continued throughout to maintain a loving and organized household.
