Stella “Sue” Wilson

Stella “Sue” Wilson

1934-202020201026133357_00001

On August 5, 1934, a feisty baby girl was born to Marvin and Hazel Hill in the Altus, Okla., community. Stella “Sue” learned the values of faith, family, friendship and hard work that she carried throughout her life. As the middle child and only girl of three, she learned cooking skills from her mother. Food and serving others became her love language.

Sue was a brilliant academic in the Humphrey’s community schools where she met a tall and handsome Billy Earl Wilson at a school basketball game. They began a romance that lasted over 70 years. They married on Jan. 26, 1952, and became parents to four children, grandparents to 10, and great-grandparents to 9.

Sue’s engaging personality, beauty and wit served her well as she became the perfect companion to compliment Bill’s longtime career as an executive. She would be a shining star at dinners and in 1980 she was presented an Olympic medal from a visiting Russian group.

Bill and Sue were extremely compassionate and aided others during sickness and grief. Sue used her talents to befriend many in her lifetime. She took special interest in the less fortunate and delighted in bringing joy to their lives with love, attention and baked goodies.

Her determined battle with Lupus came to an end on Oct. 25, 2020, and she is now in the presence of her loving Savior, her firstborn Ricky Earl, her first granddaughter, Kallie Beth McLish, her parents and her brother Joe W. Hill. Sue is survived by her faithful husband Bill (Edmond, Okla.); brother, Royce Hill (Harker Heights, Texas); daughter Annese McLish, son Bill, daughter Melinda all of Edmond, Okla. and all her beloved grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the many wonderful people that served Nana Sue in her final days.

Public visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 27th at Matthews Funeral Home. There will be a private immediate family service live-streamed from Matthew’s Funeral Home Wednesday, Oct 28th at 2:00 p.m.

We will be live streaming this service in an effort to accommodate those people that wish to attend but feel they should not due to health regulations.  To watch the service CLICK HERE to go to our YouTube page. Click on ‘Videos’, then ‘Live Streams’.

A wonderful lady and a person we always enjoyed seeing and sharing time with during their time with the Bethany Church of Christ. She was a true blessing to her family, and we know that she will be missed. Her presence with the Lord will be a great comfort, and we pray that it will be just a little while until we will get to see her again. Comfort to Bill and her family during this time.

Have many good memories of time in Humphreys school with Sue, Bill and the families. She will be missed but will have some remembrances of good times and fellowship. You may be sure that many thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and that deepest sympathy goes out to you.

Sue Wilson is my “Uncle Sue,” truly the aunt that was always warm and welcoming to me, and my entire family. Her door was open. She listened and genuinely cared, she empathized and injected perspective, wisdom, and humor. She was delightful! It was always a pleasure to observe how Sue and Bill loved each other, served each other and teamed with each other to address life’s challenges. Both Sue and my Uncle Bill inspired me to lean into the Lord’s promises to get through tough times. When my own mother passed, Sue and Bill gave me the Bible passages that sustain me to this day. (ROMANS 8:28-32)

I hope to pass down Sue’s example of Christian faith and spiritual grounding to others in our Wilson lineage, thereby keeping Eternal the memory of my Aunt Stella Sue Wilson. I love you and will thank God for you every time I think of you.

Uncle Bill when this pandemic is over I hope to come see you again.

I am saddened by Sue’s death, but comforted by her presence with Jesus and her loved ones. My friendship goes back to Bethany Church where we met Bill and Sue. Sue was always an example of courage to me in dealing with Lupus. I often remember Bill & Sue spending a week of vacation with us when we lived in Boston and what fun we had traveling the area and taking in all the Autumn colors . Take care of yourself Bill & know you are loved.

    1. Boston and the northeast in the fall with you and Bob as a very special trip for mom and dad! They talked of it often and the fun times they had with you. Thank you for your words of comfort and friendship.
