1940-2018
Sandra Shallee Kemper Merrick passed away at her lake home January 20, 2018. She was born August 5, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas to Richard and Nancy Bohannon Kemper. She married William Merrick August 15, 1962. Their only child, Tony, was born in 1965.
Sandra was a graduate of Edmond Memorial High School and attended Central State College from which she received bachelor and master’s degrees. She enjoyed learning and, even after receiving her master’s degree, she continued to enroll in college classes that were of interest to her. She retired as a librarian from University of Central Oklahoma in 2001.
She especially loved the study of state, national, and world history. She was a docent for the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. In her younger days, she was an active participant in political, church, and civic organizations. She was interested in gardening, genealogy, and the arts. She also enjoyed travels with her husband to other countries and islands.
She is survived by her son, Tony, a sister, Karen Moses of Hobart, two brothers, Clyde Kemper of Edmond and Kirk Kemper of Mustang, granddaughters, Tiffany, Chelsea, and Alisha, great grandson Kaiden, nephews, Travis Kemper of Edmond and Michael Moses of Norman, niece, Ashlee Kemper of Edmond and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William who died in 2009 and her daughter-in-law, Rebecca.
Memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice. A private family memorial service will be held at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK.
