1928-2019
Royce L. Absher was born in O’Donnell, Texas on February 22, 1928. He was the first child of Clarence L. Absher & Jewell Keen Absher.
Because of his father’s employment changes, he attended various schools in different Texas towns. He joined the Army on December 12, 1946 at Fort Sam Houston Texas. He was a clerk-typist and was honorably discharged May 14, 1948. He then attended college at Texas Tech under the Bill of Rights. After graduation, he worked a number of different jobs. He married Peggy Valentine Dyer on June 20, 1961. He became an instant father because Peggy had two children, Jerry and Margie Dyer. He worked a number of years for HUD and then went out on his own as a home appraiser. He retired in 1983.
Roy will be remembered as a people person who loved to have fun. He was a loving husband, grandfather and a good friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Peggy and his sister, Sybil Price.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Alyce J. Chappell; stepson, Jerry (Betsy) Dyer; step-daughter Margie (Bob) Schwartz and their children and grandchildren; and his brother, Howard Thomas Absher of Austin, TX, and Alyce’s children, Stephen (Sherry) Chappell, Geoffrey Chappell and Anne Barnes.
The family is so thankful for all the people who supported and prayed for them during this difficult time.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
