Rosemarie Hitt

1932 – 2023

Rosemarie was born in Klosterle (Sudentenland) Germany on June 23, 1932.

The second daughter of Anton and Margaret Wollny. Her early years were spent in Klosterle until the end of World War II. Her family along with all the other Germans were put in a Czechoslovakian concentration camp until December 1945. The family was then sent to West Germany.

In 1950, she came to the United States of America on a ship along with her cousin Guenter Wallish to live with her aunt and uncle Otto and Toni Meyer in Mt. Clemens Michigan, where she met Bob at a USO Dance. On May 17, 1952, Rosemarie and Bob were united in marriage at the Selfridge AFB Chapel in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. They made their first home in Omaha, NE, in 1969 Robert was transferred to Guymon, OK where they lived for 5 years. They were transferred to Des Moines, IA for 5 years and in 1980 they retired to Denison, Iowa where they built their dream home.

Their union was blessed with 3 children Susan, Patricia, and Robert. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great “old” grandma. She also loved her cats, Muffin, Miss Kitty and Miss Kitty 2.

Raised as Catholic after marrying Bob she converted her faith to Presbyterian.

Rosemarie loved, enjoyed, and excelled at swimming, golfing, dancing, bowling, shooting pool, making floral arrangements and gardening. Throughout the years she collected many German Hummel figurines. She was a great cook and especially loved baking cookies. They loved to travel and saw many countries.

Rosemarie was preceded in death by her parents Anton and Margaret Wollny, sister Anneliese Wollny, husband Robert D Hitt of 63  years and sons-in-law Mike Grande and Larry Cox.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are daughters, Susan Cox of Irving, TX, Patty Grande of Edmond, OK, son Bob Hitt and wife Kathy of Edmond, OK. Eight grandchildren, Christina Bryan and husband Chris of Arlington, TX, Brian Cox of Dallas, TX, Michael Grande and wife Lauren of Edmond, OK, Greg Grande and wife Kim of Guymon, OK, Mark Grande, and wife Taylor of Conroe, TX, Jennifer Ventris and husband Luke of Edmond, OK, Andy Hitt and wife Alisha of Odessa, TX, Zachary Hitt and wife Shayla of Edmond, OK, two sisters, Bertl Ann Hathaway and husband Leo of Denver, CO, Hannelore Seibert of France, goddaughter and niece Stephanie Hathaway of Denver, CO, niece and nephew Ralph, Brigitte, Dunja of France/Germany and cousin Guenter Wallish and wife Erna of Kimball, Michigan. 15 great grandchildren, Brayden, Carsen, Walker, Cade, Mason Grande of Edmond, OK, Dakota Grande of Virginia, Tatum, Kennedy, Lincoln, Peyton Ventris of Edmond, OK, Ali Gamboa of Odessa TX, Sienna and Luca Grande of Conroe, TX and Zoey and Hendrix Hitt of Edmond OK.

Honorary pallbearers will be her 6 grandsons, Michael, Greg, Brian, Andy, Mark, and Zachary.

Rosemarie was 91 years, 5 months, and 13 days old when she passed away at Iris Memory Care in Edmond, OK on December 6, 2023.

Public visitation will be conducted on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. as well as Friday, December 15, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK.

Services will be conducted at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK on December 16, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by a graveside burial in Denison, IA.
