Ronny Dean Goodnight

Ronny Dean Goodnight

1941 – 2023

Ronny Dean Goodnight, 81, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed peacefully from this world on March 14, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Ron was born on December 30, 1941, to Alva and Dorothy Goodnight in Bentonville, Arkansas.  He grew up in Arkansas before moving to Edmond, Oklahoma with his parents and sister Carole Thomas, when he was 12 years old.  Ron met Barbara Goodnight as a teenager, and they were married on August 14, 1963.  They enjoyed 49 years of marriage before Barbara’s passing. Ron and Barbara were blessed to have two children, David Goodnight and Kim (Goodnight) Northcott.

Ron had a deep faith and spent his life spreading God’s Word.  His greatest accomplishment was being honored to serve as a deacon and then as an elder for many years at the Edmond church of Christ.  He loved mission work and loved getting to be involved in missionaries’ lives. If you knew Ron, you remember his larger than life personality and how he never met a stranger.  His laugh was contagious and would always fill the room.  Ron radiated joy to those around him.  He loved traveling and always looked forward to family vacations. He was a collegiate tennis athlete and enjoyed fishing, loved OU football and playing dominoes.  Ron adored his grandchildren immensely and was so proud of them!

Ron attended Oklahoma Christian University and received his degree in Bible. He went on to attend Harding University and earned his Master of Arts in Religious Education.  Ron was a minister at Tarzana and Rocky Ford, Colorado; Davis and  Dale, Oklahoma and Newport, Arkansas. Most recently, he preached at the Erick church of Christ for 10 years.  Ron continued to preach even when he did not feel well, finally retiring in December of 2022. Ron also was an Insurance Salesman/Regional Director for 35 years and won many awards and trips for his hard work.

Ron met Ladine (Smith) Goodnight, when he was preaching in Erick, Oklahoma. They were married for 4 ½ years before her passing. Ron was blessed with two happy marriages.  He loved deeply and longed for Heaven to be reunited with his loved ones.

Ron is survived by his children, David Goodnight and his wife Cindy, of Frankfort, Indiana; daughter Kim Northcott and her husband, Randy of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Alex and Kylie Northcott, Kenzie (Northcott) and Brennan VanDyke, Hailey Northcott, Lyndsi Goodnight, Kayli Rosenthal, Alexandra Goodnight, and Maddox Goodnight; and his sister Carole Thomas of Edmond, Oklahoma.

The memorial service will be held at the Edmond Church of Christ on Tuesday, March 21st at 10:30 a.m.   Should friends desire, donations may be sent to In Search of the Lord’s Way in Ron’s memory.

So sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. He was one of my best friends when I attended Oklahoma Christian and graduated together in 1964. We had made plans to form a team to do mission work together in South America.

Ron was a good man, a dear friend and inspirational teacher of God’s word. I loved both him, and Ladine very much, they were important and helpful at a pivotal time in life. Ron will be so missed, because he was so loved by many. God Bless all of his family, friends and colleagues during this time of sadness and loss. May all their memories of Ron be of comfort to them. In my thoughts and prayers, love to all of those he has left behind.

  5. I was blessed to have known Ron, as a friend and Christian brother! Ron and Barbara would come over to our house and play dominoes with Mom and Dad on Friday nights! They were part of our family and I can still hear Ron’s laughter in my ears! I attended his wedding to Ladine and witnessed the happiness and love he felt for her! I will cherish the memories of Ron in my heart forever!!! And yes, Ron I am still your (Anita Kaye)!!!😃
