Robert Stephen Mitchell

1944-2024

Robert Stephen Mitchell, better known as Bob, passed away at the age of 79 on August 14, 2024, in Select Specialty Hospital, Oklahoma City.

He was born August 27, 1944, in Panama, and then family relocated to Baker, Louisiana.  He graduated from Baker High School, and from Louisiana State University with a degree in petroleum engineering.

Bob met his future wife, Alura Kay Miller, of Church Point, Louisiana, in their senior year at LSU. They were married on June 15, 1968, in Opelousas, Louisiana, in the oldest Methodist Church west of the Mississippi River.

They lived in several states during the time Bob worked for oil companies as a petroleum engineer. He also served two years in the US Army, stationed in West Germany.  At the time of his death, he was a petroleum engineer with the US Government, IRS.

Bob and Alura travelled extensively in Europe, Canada, and especially enjoyed Alaska.

Bob was predeceased by son, Bryce, when he and Alura lived in Portland, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alura. Also survived by a son, Mendel Mitchell, and a daughter, Aimee Mitchell Robinson.  Grandchildren are Logan Mitchell, Milo Robinson, and Ellie Robinson.

Bob will be sorely missed.

Bob and  Alura enjoyed having several bird feeders and feeding the birds.  That influenced Alura in her choice of urn.

Services will be at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Robert (Bob) Mitchell to The Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Foundation, Inc. at 4573 South Broad Street, Ste 150, Yardville, New Jersey 08620.

My sister, Sally, and I first met Bob and Alura on a trip to Alaska in August 2011. I remember how patient Bob was dealing with we three women sight seeing and deciding where to eat! Sending prayers for God’s peace and comfort for Bob’s family.
