Bob Covell

1938 – 2015

Covell, RobertMy best friend and the man that stole my heart pasted from this life as a result of auto immune hepatitis. Robert Richard Covell was born in Detroit, MI; the youngest of 3 children born to Bruce Wayne Covell Sr. and Ruby Amethyst Thorne Covell. He grew up in Detroit graduating from Redford High School and Alma College with a degree in economics. As he lived his life, he was in the US Navy and the National Guard; a Peace Corp volunteer stationed in Peru; a social worker at Eloise Hospital in Wayne County, MI.; a Special Agent with NCIS and the FAA.

He was very much the extrovert; loved meeting folks and having good conversations particularly about the stock market and world news. He was affectionately known as the lawn ranger for keeping his lawn looking like a golf course even when it was 3 acres; for his wit and sense of humor. He was US Navy proud and very patriotic; loved the written word and was fanatical about proper grammar. He learned his love of the stock market as a child from his father; love of cooking from his mother; love of comparative religion from Alma College. Some of his favorite things were having a beer with friends; trying any kind of new and interesting food, particularly from other countries; swimming; reading medieval mysteries and the newspaper comics (the best part of the newspaper); Andean and marching band music; watching the Detroit Tigers; and his dogs. He was a special person that will be missed forever and ever.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so he put his arms around you and whispered “Come to Me”. With tearful eyes I watched you and saw you pass away and although I love you dearly I could not make you stay. A Golden heart stopped beating hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

Bob is survived by his wife Sara, daughter Amy and numerous other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Bruce Jr.

There are no words to express my gratitude to the Baptist Hospital ICU 501 angels. They helped guide us thru the journey with unimaginable love and compassion.

Until we meet again my love. There will be no services per his wishes.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
