Robert Darrel “Bo” Quillin
July 17, 1928 – October 14, 2021
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother in Christ, Bo Quillin of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2021, after a brief illness. Born in Coal Hill, Arkansas, to Robert (“Bert”) and Helen Quillin, he spent his formative years in Altus Arkansas, where he participated on the basketball team and was an honor roll student at Altus High School. There he met his future bride, Juanita Gambrel, and they married on February 5th, 1946, while Bo was home on leave from the United States Navy.
Upon his Honorable Discharge, they began their life together in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Juanita worked while Bo earned his degree in Accounting under the GI Bill. He began his nearly 60-year career as a petroleum landman in Tulsa. Then, in the late 1950’s, he took his young family to Williston, North Dakota, where he helped establish the Williston Church of Christ. After Williston, they spent nearly two years in Arvada, Colorado, before moving back to Tulsa where they lived for nearly 30 years. His successful career in oil took him to places around the globe, including Greece, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. While in Tulsa, Bo served as an elder for the Springdale Church of Christ and then for the Crosstown congregation.
In 1997, Bo and Juanita moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, remaining active with their Memorial Road church family and lovingly following the activities of their grandsons. Bo continued his career in oil on a part-time basis, never seeming to be able to escape his life-long passion for the “oil patch.” He was an avid golfer and bird hunter until well into his seventies.
We fondly remember Bo for so many things: his deep faith; his strong character; his faithful love for his wife Juanita; the example he set for his children as a father and husband; his strong work ethic; and his kindness to and compassion for those he encountered. He was loved and admired by all whose lives he touched.
Bo was preceded in death by his bride, Juanita; his parents, Bert and Helen Quillin; his sister, Virginia; and an infant daughter. He is survived by his children Michael Quillin (Jill) of Walnut Creek, California and Denise Easter (Norm) of Edmond, Oklahoma; his grandsons David Easter (Katie) of Memphis, Tennessee; Brady Easter (Shanna) of Edmond, Oklahoma; Justin Easter (Charlotte) of Fort Smith, Arkansas; James Easter (Mallory) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Nate Quillin of Portland, Oregon; and Max Quillin of Walnut Creek, California; and his great-grandchildren Julius Easter of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Kayleigh Mae and Emily Rose Easter of Memphis, Tennessee; and Jachin, Aiden, and Rynna Easter of Edmond, Oklahoma.
The family respectfully requests that any donations be made in Bo’s name to Hope Harbor Children’s Home in Claremore, Oklahoma.
A graveside service will be held Monday, October 25, 2021, at 10:30 AM at Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, OK.
