In Loving Memory
R. Neill Griffith, Jr.
December 31, 1937 – June 22, 2025
R. Neill Griffith, Jr.—a beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and respected law enforcement leader—passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on December 31, 1937, to Richard Neill Griffith, Sr. and Ethel Griffith, Neill was raised with a strong sense of discipline, community, and integrity—values that defined every chapter of his life. He carried these principles from his early years in Texas, through his military service, and throughout a long, distinguished career in law enforcement.
Neill honorably served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1964 as a military police officer. His time in service deepened his commitment to duty and justice—qualities that guided him throughout decades of public service.
Following his military career, Neill joined the Oklahoma City Police Department, where he dedicated 34 years of his life. Through hard work, fairness, and unwavering integrity, he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief of Police. Chief Griffith led with quiet strength, calm leadership, and principled decision-making. He was deeply respected by colleagues and mentored many who followed in his footsteps. His legacy continues to shape the department and the community he served so faithfully.
More than his professional achievements, Neill will be remembered for his steadfast love and devotion to his family. He was a devoted husband to Linda Aline Griffith, his wife of 44 years, and a supportive, caring father and grandfather. Neill had a sharp mind, dry wit, and generous spirit. Though he never sought the spotlight, those around him looked to him for wisdom, stability, and strength.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Adam Neill Griffith, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Kay Griffith; his daughter, Erin Aline Griffith, and daughter-in-law, Taira DeFazio Griffith of San Diego, California; and his cherished grandchildren, Addison Brooks Griffith and Brady Neill Griffith. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cara Rackley; his son, Lance Neill Griffith; and his brother-in-law, Larry Reimann. Neill carried their memories in his heart every day.
As we honor the life of R. Neill Griffith, Jr., we remember a man who lived with honor, served with distinction, and loved without condition. His legacy of dedication, humility, and quiet strength will live on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Rosary will be held Sunday, June 29, 2025, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Ave., Edmond, OK 73003.
A service to celebrate Neill’s life and legacy will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, 10:00 a.m. atSt. Monica Catholic Church, 2001 N. Western Ave, Edmond, Oklahoma 73012. Burial immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery located at 13400 N. Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73131.
With deep respect and profound sorrow, we remember the life and legacy of R. Neill Griffith—a devoted public servant, a principled leader, and a truly great American. His passing leaves a void not only in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but also in the broader community he served.
As a police officer and commander with the Oklahoma City Police Department, he exemplified the highest ideals of law enforcement. His leadership was marked by integrity, courage, and a selfless commitment to justice. He was a man whose presence commanded respect, not through force or title, but through the strength of character and the authenticity of his service. His capacity to lead with empathy, decisiveness, and humility set a standard to which others aspired. He was, in every sense, a steward of the public trust.
The loss of Neill is keenly felt, however, we are sustained knowing that his life was a testament to honor and duty. We take comfort in the hope that we shall be with him far longer in eternity than we were apart in this temporal life. I extend heartfelt prayers to his dear wife, Linda, and to the entire Griffith family. May they be surrounded by support, sustained by comfort, and uplifted by the many blessings that Neill’s life so generously bestowed upon others.
His memory will endure—in the hearts he touched, in the lives he shaped, and in the noble legacy of service he leaves behind.
Restful peace in Gods arms Neill. You will be sorely missed.
