Richard “Dick” Butler

November 18, 1946 – December 30, 2024

Richard Clarence “Dick” Butler was born in Oklahoma City on November 18, 1946 to Cleo Richard Butler and Dorothy Marie Wells.  After a long illness, he passed away on December 30, 2024 at his home in Edmond, Oklahoma.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Gary Butler, brother-in-law Mark Standifer and sister-in-law Gillian Butler.

Dick and his two brothers Walter “Bubba” and Gary spent a lot of time together training horses and running cattle with their dad.  The three boys were a handful and pulled many pranks on each other in their youth.

Dick attended John Marshall High School and was often referred to as The Fonz.   In 1976, Bubba’s wife Gillian introduced Dickie the Britton Greaser to Prom Queen Marcia Kaye and they were married on October 29, 1977.  They remained happily married for 47 years and built a wonderful life together.

Dick had a 40-year career working in construction management where he built roads and did utility trenching.  He also made time for plenty of hobbies, which included detailing his vehicles, building and racing dune buggies, and playing golf.

Despite Dick’s rough and tough exterior his best quality by far was his soft and kind heart.  He loved his family deeply, had many friends and was admired by all who knew him.  Dick is survived by Marcia Butler of the home, brother Walter Butler, sister-in-law Dana Butler, sister-in-law Marilyn Holbrook and husband Bob, his children from Florida, Stephani and Brent, His son from Edmond Blake and his wife Kendal, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchild.  In addition, he is survived by many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.  His memorial service will be held at Matthews Funeral Home on Friday January 3rd at 10:00am.
