Phebe Dorothy Gould O’Shea was born on September 26, 1918 in Buffalo, NY to Charles F. Gould and Lucy Wood Gould. She died peacefully on February 5, 2015. Always having a flair for the dramatic, she delighted her younger sisters by playing tooth fairy at night, acted in high school plays and majored in drama at Wellesley College. She later attended business school and served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. There she met her husband, Daniel F. O’Shea, and spent much of her long life raising her children and grandchildren, working, and volunteering in community activities in the San Francisco East Bay Area, her home for over 55 years.
Phebe was preceded in death by her parents and her son Charles O’Shea. She is survived by sisters Betty Poole, Maryellen Hadjiski and Lucy Butterbaugh. She also leaves son Daniel O’Shea and wife Guyla Jean, daughter Phebe Tucker and husband Leslie Tucker, grandchildren Sean, Ryan, Kenan and Colin O’Shea, Nathan and Rachel Tucker, and great grandchildren Noah, Finny, Talah and Elian and Hunter O’Shea.
Family sincerely thank the staff of the Gardens at Canterbury and Good Shepherd Hospice for their kindness and wonderful support to Phebe and her family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel at the Fountains at Canterbury. Guests are invited to wear the colors green and blue, Phebe’s favorite colors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
