Peggy Lu Vorel
October 15, 1933-August 27, 2018
Peggy Lu Vorel passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018, after a long illness. Peggy was born on October 15, 1933, in Enid, Oklahoma to Edwin and Lois Beesing. She graduated from high school in Carrier, Oklahoma. Peggy was married to Emil Vorel for 63 years. They made their home in Luther, Oklahoma where they raised their family and where Peggy continued to live until she became ill.
Peggy was a wife, mother, and homemaker for 66 years. Her children remember her for always being there when they needed her, always teaching them to do the right thing and to be kind to others. She never missed a sporting event or school function in which her children participated. Over the years Grandma Peggy, as she was known to many, always looked forward to attending the church and school events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed every minute of it.
Peggy was a member of the First Christian Church of Luther where she faithfully attended for 66 years. She was an active member of the women’s Heart and Hand church group and sang in the choir every Sunday. Peggy especially enjoyed the Women’s fall dinner at the church where she would decorate a table with her daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters. Peggy was a very talented quilter. You could always find her in her quilting room working on a new quilt for a family member or friend. There isn’t a Vorel family member without a special quilt or two that were handmade by Grandma. Each one is a prized possession, and it is a well-known fact that there is nothing nicer than covering up with one of Grandma’s quilts. One of Peggy’s favorite things to do was to go on a day trip with her quilting friends where they would visit several quilt stores around the state and buy new fabric and quilting tools.
Peggy and Emil traveled to many places with their children and grandchildren. During the last few days of Peggy’s life, as everyone gathered to spend time with her, there were many special stories told and memories shared by the family about trips they had taken over the years. Peggy always kept a travel diary and wrote in it daily when she and Emil traveled with family and friends. Peggy loved traveling, but she always loved returning home. She loved being at home most of all.
Peggy had a kind and generous heart and soul. She was always helping someone or doing something for someone else. Her mother used to say that she never knew who would be at the dinner table each evening. Peggy was always bringing someone home for dinner that she thought needed a friend or someone who wasn’t as fortunate as she was. Extra food was always on hand for the “friends” Peggy seemed to regularly show up with at dinner time.
Peggy cooked special birthday dinners for all her children right up until she became ill. She made their favorite dinner and dessert for each birthday. She enjoyed cooking during the holidays and having everyone around the dinner table for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Her special Christmas Eve dinners followed by attending the candlelight services at church was something she always looked forward to and planned for each year.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Emil Vorel; her mother, Lois Beesing; her father, Edwin Beesing; and her brother, Jerry Beesing. She is survived by one brother, Bill Beesing and his wife Judy of Illinois; Four children, Mike Vorel and wife, Robin; Susan Dean and husband, John; Steven Vorel and wife, Becky; Cheryl Ballard and husband, Scott; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Peggy leaves behind many faithful and wonderful friends who sent cards, made phone calls and visits during her illness, and said many prayers on her behalf.
Peggy’s family would like to thank the Autumn Leaves Family for the care and kindness they extended to their other/grandmother during her stay there, and the special Icee runs that were made on her behalf. And also her private sitters who provided friendship, faith, and kindness to her every day.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 31, 2018 at Eleven Oaks Ranch 21601 Diagonal Rd., Luther, OK with Interment to follow at Luther Cemetery.
