Peggy Ann (Helt) Vandivort McBroom, 84, of Edmond, OK passed away December 31, 2017. She was born on February 9, 1933 in Kingfisher, OK to Vernon & Helen (Smith) Helt. She moved to Edmond in the summer of 1946 and attended Edmond High School where she was very involved in the band and was 1st chair clarinet for 3 years. She attended Oklahoma University and was in the Pride of Oklahoma Band.

Peggy married Donald Vandivort (deceased) in 1951 and they had three children. While Donald was in the Airforce, they lived in England, toured the continent and made many friends. Upon returning to Oklahoma, they started Vandivort Apparel in Bartlesville, which was successful for years. Upon returning to Edmond, she and her sister, Vonda Wood, started Van Wood Properties and developed the Olde Towne addition.

Peggy remained active in the Edmond High School Alumni Association coordinating class reunions. There she remet and married her loving husband John McBroom. She and Johnny were a loving couple for nearly 21 years, while residing in Edmond.

She is survived by children Janet Meyers of McKinney, TX, Carol Cranston and son-in-law Mark of Las Vegas, NV, and son Steve Vandivort and daughter-in-law Jan of College Station, TX, as well as 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5th from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 6th at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond, OK. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s.
