In Loving Memory of OPAL FAE GORDON

Opal Fae Gordon, 98, of Edmond, OK, passed to her eternal reward on August 30, 2023. She was the wife of Paxson Gordon, marrying July 14, 1946. They were devoted to the Lord and served him faithfully. They were long time members of the Beaver Church of Christ and the Edmond Church of Christ. They shared 73 years together until his passing in 2019. She was born January 23, 1925, to Bill and Audrey Shaffer in Wichita, KS. She was the first of six children and was depended upon to help her mother with her younger siblings. In her years on earth, she lived through many historic events of the 20th and 21st centuries. The Great Depression and World War II affected her life as it did many Americans. Mother lived her life with a great love for all around her; she had a strong spirit, a great sense of humor, could stand up for herself, and enjoyed her iced coffee. She lived her many roles as a daughter, sister, wife, teacher, missionary, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother with grace, devotion, compassion, and love. She will be missed.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Norma and Danny Bridgwater, Larry and Diane Gordon, Linda and Kermit Peters, and Sylvan and Brenda Gordon. 13 grandchildren and their spouses – Dana and Mike Bosley, Jill and Brian Amabile, Mary and Neil Ferguson, Darren and Molly Gordon, Jana and Jeremy Hornbuckle, Stephanie and Luke Christian, Tracy and Kenny Hobgood, Katie and Paul Ingram, Karisa and Todd Lester, Brenna and Kyle Dusenberry, Lori and Robby VanVekoven, LeAnna and Cody Thompson, Audrey and Kevin White. 30 great-grandchildren – Noah, Katie, Michaela, Nick, Natalee, Joel, Clay, Arren, Jax, Tilly, Nash, Lily, Callen, Kiley, Max, Sarah, Hunter, Kaden, Bradford, Brooks, Colin, Haylie, Coltyn (Chloe),
Alyson, Parker, Bryce, London, Kodi Marie, Conner, and Ben. 3 great-great- grandchildren – Brantley, Lovelynn, and August. 2 sisters – Eleanor Buxton and Rowena Reed. And many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paxson Gordon; daughter, Alma; parents, Bill and Audrey Shaffer; brothers, Charles and Dean Shaffer; sister, Wrena Mae Knowles; and 2 great-grandchildren, Marley and Olivia White.

Public visitation will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Matthews Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends and guests.

Services will be held Friday, September 8, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Edmond Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, Oklahoma.

    Mrs. Gordon was my fourth grade teacher, neighbor and friend. She has left a wonderful legacy for her children, grandchildren and greats. Her memory will live in our hearts. My condolences to her family.
