Oliver Sherrick, Jr. was born on June 28, 1924 in Strang, OK and grew up in Avant, OK. He is the son of Oliver Sherrick, Sr. and Hattie Lucille Baker. He married Alpha Mae Williams on December 7, 1950 in Britton, OK. Together, they had twosherrick pic sons, Richard Eugene and Grover Dean Sherrick.

Oliver, known by all as Junior, was a World War II veteran where he served as a tank driver for the 739th medium tank battalion. On D-Day, they landed on the shores of La Havre, France in the thick of battle entrenched for two weeks. Junior spent 13 months in Europe then returned to the US on board the Billy Mitchell. He went on to Fort Oregon in California to prepare to enter the Japan Theatre. On August 14th, Japan surrendered thus ending WWII.

For six years he barbered in Britton, and in 1956 he came to Edmond and worked at Uel McCain’s barber shop. In 1969, Junior bought ownership of the shop from Uel and changed the name to The Friendly Barber Shop. In 1991, Junior’s son Rick, took over ownership of the shop enabling Junior to retire part time.

The local paper, The Edmond Evening Sun, has written many articles on Junior and The Friendly Barber Shop over the course of many years. Junior’s love and faithfulness to God has been a great example to his family and friends. Junior never passed up an opportunity to be a witness for the Lord and tell of how he has sustained him. Junior is well known throughout his community and loved by all.

Junior leaves behind his wife, Alpha, sons Rick (wife Cheryl) and Dean (wife Pam), three granddaughters, Candice, Deana, and Jennifer, three great-grandchildren, Alexandra, George, and Nathan, and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday August 4, 2016 at Spring Creek Assembly of God with interment at Gracelawn Cemetery. Viewing will be from 9a.m. until 8p.m. on Wednesday.
