Norva Louise Hartman Tippins

Tippins, Norva ObitNorva Louise Hartman Tippins

Norva passed peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2015. She was born in Woodward, Oklahoma on September 8, 1927, the only daughter of Faye and William Hartman.

She attended school in Woodward, OK, Yakima, WA, and graduated from Vaughn High School in Arkansas. It was in Arkansas that she met Joe, the love of her life for 68 years. They eloped to Yuma, Arizona, on November 2, 1945.

Although she worked away from home at various times during her life, she found her joy as a wife, mother, and homemaker. In her later years, Norva and Joe owned and operated a small business together until his death. She was an excellent seamstress, fabulous cook, and enjoyed “reading” cookbooks from her vast collection. She had a sweet tooth and kept quite a stash of goodies on hand. She loved to travel and plan trips for her Happy Timers group at First Baptist Church in Edmond. She loved music, singing, and dancing. Many evenings at her Sterling House home, you could hear her table group, under the direction of her daughter, Vicki, singing oldies and special sacred songs. Randy, her son, would accompany them with his iPhone.

Prior to her diagnosis with Alzheimer’s/Dementia, Norva faithfully taught a Sunday School class for senior ladies. She was an active participant in the Homebound program, sharing her time and love with seniors who were unable to attend church.

Norva is preceded in death by her parents, brother, William Roy Hartman, and her devoted husband, Joe D. Tippins.

She is survived by a son, Randy Tippins, Edmond, daughters; Vicki Snow, Edmond, Glenda Shilling and husband Gerald of Garland, TX. She was the beloved “Memee” of Sydney Snow (Oklahoma City), Jonathan Shilling (San Francisco), and Katherine Shilling (Seattle), brother-in-law, Donald Tippins (Bakersfield, CA), and many nieces and nephews.

Her family is thankful for her care at Sterling House and her young caregivers who loved her, teased her, doted on her, and danced with her. We are appreciative of the care extended to her by Amber, Chrissy, and Markita of Excell Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to:

    Vicki,
Thanks so much for sending this to me. It was wonderful reading about your mom. I had forgotten that she was born in Woodward which was my grandmother’s home. I feel so blessed to have worked for your dad and to have known Joe and Norva.
