clip_image002Neoma Shotts Weiss died on June 29, 2018 in Anchorage Alaska. She was an Edmond resident from 1945 to 2004. She taught school for 15 years and sold insurance for another 25 years as a small business owner. Voted Edmond Woman’s Club woman of the year in 2002 for activities in Kiwanis, BBB, High School Reunions, and Church of Christ. She organized Edmond HS reunions for her 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 year reunions.

She was born on May 9, 1933, in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, her father was Winfred Ulyssis Shotts “Skinner” and her mother was Mildred Simons Shotts. Neoma’s father died when she was 2 yrs old in an industrial accident but the tragedy affected her entire life.

Neoma had a daughter in 1949 at the age of 16 years old.  Trudy Reed was raised by an adopted family, and married Charlie Smith.  Trudy and Charlie raised 3 beautiful children Shannon, Ryan, and Megan and have 8 grandchildren.

In 1951, Neoma Shotts married Charles Weiss from a homesteader family in Edmond Oklahoma.  They had two sons, Ronald Weiss in 1956 and Troy Weiss in 1962. Neoma obtained a BS and MS in mathematics and education from Central State College.  She taught school for 15 years at Edmond Memorial HS.  She sold insurance for 25 years.

Ron Weiss married Eydie Russell. He is retired in St. Louis Missouri after managing a plastics plant for Nike.

Troy Weiss married Janet Leach. They have lived in Alaska most of their careers with BP oil company. They have 2 children, Jessica and Stormy and a granddaughter, Juliet.

In 2004, Neoma started showing signs of Alzheimer’s.  She fought the disease for 14 years from assisted living facilities near her son and daughter-in law.  Her heritage includes that her family loves their Lord Jesus Christ.

Services for Neoma Shotts Weiss will be held at the Edmond Church of Christ at 10:00 AM on July 13 followed by a graveside service at Grace Lawn Cemetery ~11:00 AM. Public viewing will be at Matthews Funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on July 12.
