Nancy Jane Nelson

Nancy Jane Nelson

1944 – 2025

Nancy Jane Nelson, 80, was born to James Edgar (J.E.) and Faye Demory in Ardmore, OK on October 12, 1944, and joined her Lord and Savior on June 29, 2025. She fought her battle with cancer with an enduring strength granted to her by God. She lost this earthly, physical battle only to claim victory in Jesus.

A Celebration of Life service will be held July 7, 2025, 10:00 am at Faith Bible Church, 600 N Coltrane in Edmond.

Nancy lived her early years in Pauls Valley, OK. She attended Pauls Valley Public Schools all 12 years, graduating from PVHS in 1962. After graduation, she moved to Oklahoma City. In 1984 Nancy and Larry met. They were joined in marriage on July 4, 1986, in Eureka Springs, AR.

Nancy loved Jesus and had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was dedicated to reading scripture, studying her Bible, and sharing the Good News of salvation with others. She was committed to participating in church activities including initiating the greeter program at Faith Bible Church as well as initiated Ties that Bind group. She also assisted with crafts during VBS. During her working career she enjoyed providing administrative support to the volunteer program at Presbyterian Hospital and later as a counselor for “at risk” youth at Western Heights High School. While at the school, in addition to developing program curriculum, she initiated a drug program that was modeled and used by other schools.

It is no secret that God blessed Nancy with the gift of hospitality. She loved cooking for others and had the talent to be able to cook anything. The more people she served, the bigger her smile. Her dinners usually included full decorations appropriate for the season or the themed party and after dinner entertainment involving a fun, silly game, and hat. Nancy also enjoyed gardening and could make anything grow. She was the “Queen of Projects” – always having a project going while thinking of the next project to start.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.E. and Faye Demory, sister-in-law Goldie Demory and niece Gina Claxton She is survived by her husband, Laurence Nelson, son John Burks Ill and wife Trina; Ryan Nelson and wife Larissa Coffey; four grandchildren – Reagan Burks, Carter Burks, Ryan Nelson Jr, Addie Nelson and step-grandchildren Hayden Coffey and Marshal Coffey; brothers Terry Demory, Tom Demory and Gerald Demory and wife Karen as well as nephews and nieces – Steve Demory (Shannon), Katrina Williams (Bobby), Christa Almon (Jerren) and Dustin Demory (Becca).

Nancy lived her life with a servant’s heart, befriending, bringing joy and fun, and comforting many throughout the years. She will forever remain in our hearts as an example of love and kindness. She is resting in peace knowing she is deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edmond Hope Pregnancy Center or Faith Works of the Inner City.

Services will be held Monday, July 7, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Bible Church, 600 N Coltrane Rd, Edmond, OK 73034.

Nancy was a strong prayer warrior. She faithfully studied the scriptures and had a servant heart. She longed to see her Jesus. I am sure when she saw Jesus he said, “Well done.”

Nancy is one of the most loving and encouraging women I have ever known! She showed the love of Jesus through her gift of hospitality, faithful prayers and encouraging words! She loved our family for over 30 years, especially our Hannah! We have the funnest memories from her being the “maid” at Hannah’s 8th birthday party, tea parties, adventures in her backyard to the faithful prayers and support when Hannah lost Zach last year. We love you Nancy! Your impact on our lives is eternal. We look forward to seeing you in Heaven❤️
