Mignon Catherine Carter Denyer
1931-2016
Mignon Catherine Carter Denyer, 85, passed away November 26, 2016, in Edmond, OK. She was born June 2, 1931 in Traskwood, AR to Joseph and Myrtle Carter and was preceded in death by both parents as well as her only sister Antoinette. Mignon graduated from the Arkansas Baptist Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1952 and was immediately assigned as Head Nurse of the Labor and Delivery unit of the same hospital. She served proudly as a 1st/Lt in the United States Air Force for two years, where she met and married her husband of sixty years, William H. Denyer, currently a resident of Edmond, OK. She was also a loving mother and grandmother, survived by her son William S. Denyer, daughter-in-law Carolina and their daughter Natalie of Miami, FL, and also by her daughter Renee D. Sharman and her two daughters, Isabelle and Blaire of Bridgewater, VA. While raising her family, often alone as her husband was called away on military duty,
Mignon continued her nursing profession, teaching an infant care class for new parents at Pease AFB, NH, and holding the position of Director of Nurses at a Convalescent Hospital in Merced, CA. She returned to school in 1974 in Edmond, Ok and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1976 from Central State University, majoring in Health Occupations Education. She then worked as an Instructor for the Division of Practical Nursing from 1976 to 1987, and as the Director from 1988 to 1993, for the Mid-Del Lewis Eubanks Area Vo-Tech School in Midwest City. In 1988 she also earned her Master’s Degree in Adult Education. Throughout her teaching career, Mignon’s dedication and commitment to the education of her students was recognized as she received the Educator of the Year Award for a six-state region of the Health Division in 1984; the Oklahoma Outstanding HOSA Advisor Award in 1987; and the Pride of Mid-Del Schools Award from 1991-1993. After retiring in 1993, Mignon devoted her energies to home, family and church.
Open visitation will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 10:30am until 8:00pm at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK. Funeral Service is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 1 at First Christian Church of Edmond, 201 E. 2nd Street in Edmond.
