Michael Howard Boydstun

1944 – 2025

Michael “Mike” Howard Boydstun passed peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Oklahoma City after a courageous and grace-filled battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 80 years old.

Born on August 5, 1944, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Mike graduated as a proud Wildcat from Ponca City High School in the Class of 1962. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he majored in Business and was a proud member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Mike began his career in Houston, Texas, where he held various roles at Foley’s Department Store over 17 years, ultimately serving as their rug and carpet buyer. In 1982, the opportunity to return to his home state brought him to Oklahoma City, where he became Vice President of Marketing at Carpet World, a position he held until his retirement in 2004, where he made many life long connections and friends in the flooring community.

Mike’s heart was fullest when surrounded by family, and he never missed an opportunity to share how proud he was of them. He is survived by his beloved children: daughter Karen Bouska and her husband Brendon;  daughter Julie McCord and her twin brother & son Galen Boydstun and his wife Lisa; and youngest daughter Cindy DeBenedictis and her husband Anthony. Mike smiled widest and brightest when speaking of his grandchildren: Taylor, Brian, Kyle, Arden, Scott, Lauren, Max, and Lucy. He is also survived by his former spouse, Susan Barrick Boydstun, with whom he shared many years raising their family.

Mike shared many happy years with his spouse Barbara Fluty Boydstun, making memories together along with her daughter Alisa Scott Weatherman, her husband Dan, and granddaughter Devon.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Lorene Boydstun, and his brother Don. His memory lives on in his siblings Sue Witteman of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Jim Boydstun of Naples, Florida.

Mike’s happy place was always in the great outdoors. Whether it was his countless seasons playing softball—where he unsuprisingly took on the CB radio handle “Center Fielder” for the begining of his playing career before becoming a full time  pitcher, where he could put a spin on the ball making it curve several feet, or a flat pitch where it would not move at all, always playing under the number “10”. Or you would find Mike out on a boat with a rod in his hand fishing on Lake Conroe, TX  or Lake Eufaula, OK in hopes of filling his ice chest with crappie or bass for a fish fry,or on Crow Duck or other lakes of Manitoba, Canada trolling for a new personal record Northern Pike, Small Mouth, or Walleye. Mike found peace and joy in nature and camaraderie with friends and family alike, as with his “Fishing Buddy” son Galen, or his good friend Stan Clark who spent many a hour either on the lake making memories, or more recently, frequently getting a burger to lift his spirits reminicing in those times shared with laughter and appreciation for that time spent.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Mike will remember his humor, warmth, quiet confidence, and generous spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s honor to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at michaeljfox.org

Services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 222 NW 15th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73103.

    Mr. Boydstun,
It was a pleasure getting to know you and introducing you to your family’s most interesting ancestry. You leave behind a legacy of incredible children and grandchildren who are truly kind and caring people that the world needs more of! I know you were super proud of each of them. The Thunder showed the Nuggets who’s boss last night and I know you were cheering from above! Rest in peace💗

  2. Susie, Karen, Julie, Galen & Cindy,
You and your precious family have always been a part of mine! Thank goodness my dad met Mike through the carpet business when I was so little, because I would have never been blessed by you-all (nor have ever attended the tomato festival)! Julie, you are one of my most treasured! Susie, you were one of my mom’s most treasured! And I know Mike was one of my dad’s most treasured too! I love you all very much!

Sue and Jim, I can only say that as an only child, I never had the love and companionship of a sibling, and likewise never the special pain of the loss of one. My heart goes out to you. Karen, Julie, Galen and Cindy, I don’t know you well, but I have lost a father and a mother, so I know your pain. I am sorry for your loss, and pray that God grants you comfort, peace and strength for life without Mike. My mom, Chrystelle, loved your dad very much, and so did I, though from a distance. I’m happy he is at peace now. I will not be able to be there for the funeral, but will be thinking of you all. Much love, and may we all meet in better times one day on the other side, where there are no tears.
