Matthew David Stechmann
January, 28 1983 – August, 30 2021
Matthew David Stechmann, 38, passed from this life on Monday, August 30th after a brief illness. He was born January 28, 1983, in Olathe, KS to Pamela (Davis) Pflumm and David Wayne Stechmann.
During his youth, Matt attended the Shawnee Mission schools and Wentworth Military academy. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 2001. He graduated summa cum laude from Vatterott Technical College in 2014 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Electrical Technologies. He was currently employed by the City of Edmond in the Traffic Department.
As a young man, Matt enjoyed playing football, soccer, baseball, and running track. He also enjoyed playing softball as an adult in Edmond.
In 2001, Matt met his future wife, Lindsay, while selling alarm systems door-to-door. They fell fast in love and were married in 2002. They welcomed their firstborn, Coby, in August of that year. In September 2003, another bouncing baby boy, Logan, blessed their lives.
Matt had a large personality that brought plenty of humor to almost any situation. If laughter is the best medicine, Matt was an honorary MD.
In 2016, Matt showed his desire to serve when he successfully completed firefighter training and became a volunteer in the Oak Cliff Fire and Rescue District (IAFF #5040) in south Logan County. He gladly answered the call, whether to fight the flames or perform a medical assist. He often spoke fondly of his firefighter family. His brothers and sisters recognized his efforts when he was awarded the Firefighter of the Year and IAFF Outstanding Member of the Year in 2017.
Matt further demonstrated his desire to serve and rescue by checking the organ donor box on his driver’s license application. As he departed this life, he was able to continue to help those in need.
Matt was preceded in death by his father, Dave, in March 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Lindsay, and sons Coby and Logan of the home; daughter Taylor MacKnight of Kansas City, KS; daughter Izabella Stechmann of Olathe, KS; Mother Pam of Shawnee, KS; sister Ashley (Erskin, Channing, Charleigh) of Prairie Village, KS; mother-in-law Linda Edmondson (Brian) of Jenks, OK; father-in-law Chris Clark of Oklahoma City, and brother-in-law Curtis Clark (Misty, Abigail, Madalyn, Payton) of Edmond.
A public visitation will be held Thursday, September 2nd from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, OK with family to greet friends during this time.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 4th at Majors, 86 E 15th St, Edmond, OK 73013, beginning at 6:00 PM.
