1954 – 2023
Matthew Arnell Cotten, well-loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died from pancreatic cancer in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 30, in Edmond Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Genene Bowman Cotten, his four living children (Erin, Caitlin, Jeffrey, and Romy) and one deceased child (Bo) as well as his five grandchildren (Ethan, Jacob, Liam, Wells, and Mars). Matthew was a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ, who lived out his belief through quietly serving and loving his family, friends and coworkers. Matthew was a loyal and loving husband, who was most content sitting near Genene, holding her hand. Matthew was a compassionate and committed father, who was kind as he gave lessons to his all of his children, including Ethan and Jacob his “bonus babies,” on everything from the scriptures to how to best load a dishwasher. He loved nothing more than to listen to one of his children or grandchildren play the piano or cello or to watch them as they played a sport. He was a very proud Pappy. He was an invested and enthusiastic physical therapist and patient mentor for those he worked with. Matthew will be missed, but all who love him are comforted by his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the assurance of His love, grace, and resurrection.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home.
Private services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to help support Ethan and Jacob. Donations can be made via Venmo to the profile @Caitlin-Cotten.
