Mary Ruth Cornforth Harris, 95, passed away peacefully with her wit and sense of humor intact on January 2, 2020. Mary was born to William Robert Cornforth and Mary Zelpha Branson in Navina, Logan Co, OK. She attended Wesley School of Nursing with her sister Jannie after graduating from Navina High School. Then both joined the Army Nurse Corps and moved to Falfurrias, Texas where they helped start the town’s first hospital.
Most of her nursing years were at Wesley/Presbyterian Hospital.
Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Jannie Frances Perkins and her husband of 50 years, John Harris.
Survivors include daughters Carolyn Couch of Edmond,
Joyce McKee and husband Jim of Stillwater. Grandsons Seth and wife Mia McKee of Alexander, North Dakota and Luke McKee and fiancee Amber of Long Beach, California. Great grandchildren Jude and Lillian McKee of Houston, TX and 3 step great grandchildren of Stillwater, OK. As well as a large extended family who loved her dearly.
Mary was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, great aunt and cousin. She made many trips to Ada, OK to spend time with her grandsons. She loved to spoil them. She and her cousin Lucille started the tradition of monthly Cousin’s Dinners which has extended to the next generation of cousins.
Mary loved to travel and went all over the United States camping with her daughter Carolyn and sister Jannie.
She had many other talents such as cooking, sewing clothes for her daughters, cross-stitching, oil painting, and gardening to name a few.
A funeral service will be held 10 am Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S Kelly, Edmond, OK. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 P.M, Monday, January 6th at Matthews Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Mary may be made to the American Lung Association or New Covenant United Methodist Church, Edmond, OK.
