1928-2018

Mary Lou Thomas was born in Mansfield, Texas on November 22, 1928 to Faye and Lee Walker. Her first 15 years were spent growing up in Everman, Texas. At the age of 15, with the help of her friends, she eloped with the boy next-door, 17 year old Cullen Thomas. Their secret wedding and subsequent marriage lasted 70 years and eleven months. Mary Lou quit school to become a fulltime wife and homemaker, then mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Of her many talents she practiced “radical hospitality” her entire life. “Nanny,” as she was called, was a fan of boxing, the OKC Thunder, and TCU football. But most of all she was a gamer. She would play any game, but loved “42” best of all. Throughout moving to Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma she found new “42” friends, parties and lots of love along the way. She brought happiness, kindness, and love to everyone she met while she passionately tried to win every game or match. She did most of the time.

She liked to be the “Belle of the Ball” and always wore a hat to church without fail.

She is survived by a daughter, Joy Ferguson, and husband Jim of Byrdstown, TN, three sons – Cullen Jr., and wife Bonnie of Edmond: Randy, and wife Kathy of Portland, OR; Trent, and wife Fran of Tulsa, OK; Eleven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and three more “in the oven”; She is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews; and her committed friend Bob Wall, countless friends at Memorial Road Church of Christ and Towne Village Retirement Center.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Faye and Lee Walker, brother, Harold and husband, Cullen, Sr.

Mary Lou accepted Christ at a young age, read His word and prayed daily. Her commitment to doing good was paramount. She passed confidently to her Savior’s arms on New Years Day 2018.

Her funeral service will be at 10 AM Friday January 5th at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond to be followed by interment at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Edmond. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 6 PM to 8 PM at Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.
