Mary Ann McCuan

Mary Ann McCuan

1940-2023

Mary Ann (Sartin) McCuan was born in Powell, OK on May 10, 1940, to Mary Lucille (Scribner) Sartin and Travis Leroy “Big” Sartin. Mary grew up in Marshall County and had many aunts and uncles and a multitude of cousins. Mary still longed for a sibling and finally got her wish when she was 15 years old with the birth of her brother, Michael Joe Sartin.

Mary graduated salutatorian from Madill High School in 1958 and in June she married the boy next door, Roy Gayle McCuan. Their daughter Rhonda was born the next year, followed by their son, Randy in 1961. The family moved to Edmond in 1966 and in 1972 Mary had their dream home built where they lived the rest of their lives.

Mary went to business school and then to work after the children started school and had a long successful career at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. She retired just two weeks before the Murrah Building bombing and lost many friends and colleagues that day. While she enjoyed and excelled in her career, her true love was traveling. She traveled the world with family and friends, while making new friends along the way. It was always fun to look at the huge stack of Christmas cards from her friends around the world.

Mary was successful at everything she did and after retirement in 1995, she found a new hobby of entering sweepstakes. She won two cars and a constant stream of smaller prizes. One of her favorites was a trip with her son, Randy, to meet racing driver Tony Stewart. They received personalized driver jumpsuits and Tony took Mary for a ride and then Randy drove the car. Rhonda is still jealous.

Mary passed away at the home she loved on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. She is survived by her two children: Rhonda McCuan and husband, Michael Green, of Lakewood, CO and Randall McCuan, Sr. of Oklahoma City. Four grandchildren: Randall McCuan, Jr. of Edmond, Megan McDevitt and husband, Seth, of Oklahoma City, Laura Nelsen and husband, Daniel, of Norman, and Kayla McCuan of Oklahoma City. Five great-grandchildren: Alaina, Jace, Jane, Ransom, and Fisher.

Mary is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, and her parents and brother.

The family wishes to thank the outstanding home caregiving team of Christy Wilson, Kove Beals, Rebekah Beals, and Cortlen Combs. Finding them was an absolute miracle. They went above and beyond every day and without them our parents would not have been able to stay in their home. Also, many thanks to the medical professionals and staff of Good Shepherd Hospice, who once again provided compassionate care and support for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice
