Marvin D. Hays
1939-2018
Marvin Hays – born #9 of Carter 9 to Okley & Doris Hays into a family of 14 siblings. Marvin had a joy of life, love of laughter and a tender heart. With a soft heart for the elderly, Marvin loved his position of 14 years with Copper Lake Retirement Village. When his mother and father in law (Marcus & Mary Adair, formerly of Canyon, Texas) moved to Copper Lake for their retirement home, he was a happy camper – enjoying lunch with them every day.
The nine Hays brothers and five sisters kept Garber High School sports on the map for many years. Among Marvin’s many sports accomplishments, he lettered in three sports (football, basketball and baseball) and was named “Oklahoma All State” and “Oklahoma Player of the Year”. This was a feat that his son Tosh would later accomplish in Oklahoma golf. Marvin’s successful high school baseball career was rewarded with signing to play professional baseball with the Milwaukee Braves, however a shoulder injury would force him to retire from the sport he loved.
In 2005, Marvin reconnected to his earlier career path as an oil & gas land man – working with long-time friend, Mark Roberts, up until the time of his illness.
One of Marvin’s greatest pleasures was being involved in the successful golf career of his son, Tosh Adair Hays. Attending every tournament, watching from the golf cart as Tosh gave lessons and beaming with pride with every accomplishment – Marvin’s pride was unmatched.
Following a lengthy illness of leukemia – Marvin is now fully restored to health and in the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ – as he looks out over a pristine ball field, ready to pitch a perfect game, with long time fans and friends watching from the stands.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Okley & Doris Hays, brothers – Thurman Hays (Kingfisher, OK), Bob Hays (Enid, OK) and sisters – Colleen Evans (Fayetville, AR), Madonna Campbell (Enid, OK), nephew, Randy Miramontes (California) and mother and father in law, Marcus & Mary Adair.
He is survived by the love of his life, Ann (Adair) Hays and Tosh Adair Hays of Edmond, OK, daughter, Marla (Hays) Devous, husband Arnold and grandson, Grant of Houston, Texas ; brothers – Joe Hays (Spokan, WA) Nathan “Worry” Hays (Enid, OK) Oakley “Guy” Hays (Enid, OK ) Larry Hays (Hennessey, OK) Garry Hays (Enid, OK) Terry Hays (Manford, OK), sisters – Jonna Miramontes (Anaheim, CA), Madeline Unruh (Athens, TX) Velma Hayes (Apple Valley, CA), many nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Visitation will take place at Matthews Funeral Home on Sunday, April 29th and Monday, April 30th from 2:00-8:00pm.
A celebration of Marvin’s life will be Tuesday, May 1st at 2:00pm at Spring Creek Church, located at 15th Street and Bryant in Edmond.
