Margaret Ann Foster
1942-2023
Margaret passed away after a long illness at her Edmond, Oklahoma home.
Margaret was born Margaret Ann Holstine to Winifred and Dr Garold D Holstine in Iowa City, Iowa. She relocated with her father’s academic career, residing in Iowa City, Iowa 1942-1943, Minot, North Dakota 1943 -1946, Norman, Oklahoma 1946-1951, and Grand Forks, North Dakota 1951-1954. The family relocated to Reno, Nevada in 1954 where Margaret graduated from Reno High School in 1960.
Margaret went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education at Arizona State University, at Tempe, Arizona. She was active in university life, participating in dramatic productions and becoming Panhellenic President during her sophomore year. Margaret then transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno, where she completed her degree.
Margaret moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1967. She worked as a social worker and a teacher, including teaching reading at Children’s House Montessori School in Muskogee. While working toward her Oklahoma teacher’s certification at Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, she produced a paper evaluating the presentation of ethnic minorities in elementary school social studies books.
Margaret returned to college to follow her dream to become a registered nurse, graduating from the nursing program at Bacone College, Muskogee, Oklahoma, in 1980. Margaret went on to pursue a career as a dedicated and expert cardiac care nurse at Mercy and Deaconess Hospitals in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
We will always remember her dedication to her family and patients and her witty sense of humor.
Margaret was married to Charles Jorgensen in 1964 in Reno, Nevada. She was married to Stephen Henry Foster in 1972 in Oklahoma City.
Margaret is preceded in passing by her parents, Winfred and Dr Garold D Holstine, and by her sister, Donna Marie Hester. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Gretchen Kay Foster (David Gopurenko) of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales Australia, and Joyce Robin Wood (Timothy Wood) of Fairview, Tennessee and her son John Edward Foster of Morris, Minnesota her grandchildren Zachary Allen Wood and Julianne Nicole Wood of Fairview, Tennessee, her brother John Holstine (Donna Holstine) of Fairmont, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
