Marcella Guyer

1922-2013

Side-by-side and together again.

guyer, marcella picMarcella was born March 22, 1922 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to William Walter and Pearl Leoter Evitts. The family relocated to Edmond, Oklahoma where she attended Edmond Public Schools graduating in 1938. In Edmond, she met the love of her life and soul mate, Robert (Bob) Guyer, and, with her father stating she could not get married until graduating college, she attended Central State College where she received her education degree in three years and the two inseparable people were married on December 20, 1941 beginning a loving 71 years of marriage.

During WWII, Marcella and Bob worked together in the war effort at Tinker AFB repairing B-17 and B-24 Bombers also fitting the B-29 Bombers for combat. After the war, Marcella and Bob gave birth to their first child, Marcena (Marcy), on October 20, 1947, with twins, Tim and Kim, arriving on July 21, 1954. Marcella worked most of her career as the administrative assistant to the editor of the Vista, the Central State College Newspaper, and as a bookkeeper for an apartment real estate firm.

Through these years, Marcella and Bob enjoyed RV trips until they retired to pursue their dream of living on Lake Eufaula where they enjoyed “the good life” with Marcella applying her gifted artistic talents to painting while Bob built her picture frames when they weren’t fishing. They moved back to Edmond in 2006 to a senior living center to be closer to family. Not long after their return to Edmond, Marcella was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Bob remained by her side and took care of her providing the love and support she needed and he felt. Marcella was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Pearl, her sister, Marjorie Evitts and Bob (less than 3 months ago).

Survivors include her daughter Marcena Pinney of Berlin, Connecticut, her son Corey Hamilton of Edmond, and daughter Casey Apuzzo and husband Frank of Wallingford, Connecticut, son Tim and Cindy Guyer of Edmond, their daughters Megan Tincker and husband Chris of Meridian, Idaho, Michelle Bratcher and husband Greg of Norman, and Carla Saulsberry and husband Mark of Midwest City, son Kim and Cathy Guyer of Edmond, their daughters Lauren VanOsdol and husband Kody of Edmond, and Alysa Guyer of Oklahoma City.

Marcella also enjoyed the numerous great grandchildren she loved as well.

The family would like to express their thanks and extreme gratitude to the wonderful staff of Companion Hospice for the faith, love, care, and devotion they provided.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelley, Edmond, Oklahoma, where she will then be laid to rest next to Bob, at Gracelawn Cemetery, thus never missing an anniversary together.

Side-by-side and together again.
