Linda Sue Stratton
1955 – 2020
Linda S. Stratton, 64, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed from this world into the next on March 19, 2020 as a result of complications stemming from a heart attack she suffered in December.
Linda was born in Linwood, California to Carolyn Goodwin (nee Woody) and Dorris Goodwin on October 4th 1955. When she was still very young she and her family moved to Oklahoma where she lived in various towns. She grew up with her sister Mary Kathryn (Kathy) and brothers Timothy and Paul. Linda’s family lived a hard-scrabble life as her parents divorced when Linda was young and her mother was the sole support for the family. But Linda never felt deprived, only happy and loved.
Linda attended and graduated from John Marshall High School. She married her former husband Richard (Rick) Novakowski in March of 1974. Born to this marriage were Linda’s sons Steven Novakowski and Mark Novakowski. Linda and Rick divorced in 1997. Linda met her current husband Charles (Chuck) Stratton later that same summer. The meeting was arranged by mutual friends that, in the early days of the internet, chatted with other Oklahomans throughout the state. They met face to face for the first time on Father’s Day 1997. Linda was always telling folks that “we met on the internet”. Linda was engaged to Chuck on Christmas Eve of 1999 and they were married in Edmond, Oklahoma on March 3rd, 2007. Yes, it was a long engagement! They lived together in Moore, Oklahoma until moving to Edmond shortly before their wedding. Linda was a stay-at-home homemaker and she enjoyed craftwork, whether it was sewing, crocheting, or making jewelry. She was a talented baker, making the wedding cakes for all of her family, including her own wedding cake!!
Linda suffered her heart attack on December 16, 2019. She was admitted to the Oklahoma Heart Hospital and discharged on December 24th after receiving a triple bypass operation. From that point on, numerous issues had her going to multiple doctor visits, another short stay in the hospital, more doctor visits, another hospitalization for the placement of a stent, her last stay in the Heart Hospital, and her final stop at Integris Baptist Medical Center. The family would like to thank the doctors, staff, but especially the numerous nurses in both hospitals that tended to Linda with enormous amounts compassion and kindness, which they extended to the family as well.
