Lillian Ruth Stewart

Lillian Ruth Stewart

1923-2024

By faith and grace she has found her way home. Lillian Ruth (Eakins) Stewart was born November 30, 1923, in Kingfisher, OK and went home to be with the Lord September 28, 2024, in Edmond, OK. Last year, Lillian enjoyed celebrating her 100th birthday surrounded by loved ones who were blessed by her faith, humor and unconditional love.

Her parents, Joseph Victor Eakins and Freda (Paul) Eakins raised Lillian in the Presbyterian Church (Federated Church) of Kingfisher, along with her two sisters, Hazel Lorene (Johnson) and Betty Jo (Crews). Lillian graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1941 as a class valedictorian and as an accomplished tennis player. Lillian moved to OKC to attend business college and was soon hired as a stenographer for The First National Bank.

On Feb 13, 1946, Lillian married WWII combat veteran Mont B. Stewart of OKC. They were married for 58 years until his death in 2004. They raised four boys in the First Presbyterian Church of OKC: Joseph Gordon (deceased), Thomas Michael (wife Elizabeth), James Wesley (wife Susan) and Stephen Paul (wife Beverly). Lillian loved raising her sons and found joy in all she did as a Cub Scout den mother, Meals on Wheels volunteer, real estate agent, Sunday school teacher, and readily acknowledged “fun aunt” to her many nieces and nephews Lillian loved camping, fishing and playing card games with Mont and their dear grandchildren and later, playing on the floor with their wonderful great-grandchildren. She and Mont were founders of the “Square Knots” square dance club. Lillian was an avid gardener, an expert seamstress, and relished hosting family celebrations. In retirement, Mont and Lillian built a vacation home in Taos, NM, which they shared with their family. She also spent time watching college sports and knitting caps for babies born prematurely. Lillian radiated God’s love in a life focused on others. In her Bible, she wrote: “When your aim in life is to be a channel through which God can pour out His blessing on those around you, you will be happy.”

The burial took place Oct. 2, at Fairlawn Cemetery in OKC attended by immediate family. A memorial service will be held at the Federated Church in Kingfisher, OK on October 18th at 1:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to Federated Church, 400 W. Fay Ave., Kingfisher, OK 73750, or a cause important to you.
