Leota Mae Briney, died peacefully on June 9 at the age of 92. She was born on November 28, 1924 in Shamrock Texas to Alvie and Fannie Haley. The family moved to Edmond in 1942 where she met and married Eugene Briney, they were married for 67 years.

She is survived by their son Gary. Leota and “Gene” were charter members of Southern Hills Christian Church in Edmond. She retired from Western Electric in Oklahoma City after 22 years of service. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband “Gene”, brothers Jay and Jerry Haley and sisters Maxcene Fort and Neva Elliott. She is survived by her sisters Nova Elliott (Bob) and Glenda McBroom (Pete) and her brother Charles Haley (Gloria), all of Edmond and a brother Delbert Haley (Gayle) of Oklahoma City, a sister-in-law Sue Haley of Scottsdale, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorials be made to the Oak Hill Care Center of Jones, Oklahoma and Frontier Hospice and we thank them for their care of our loved one.

 

Formal visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 12 at Matthews Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
