1954 – 2023
LaNita Joyce Davis DeWolfe was born January 21, 1954 to Lester E. and Orilla Z. Davis in Matador, TX. She spent her early years in Roaring Springs, TX and graduated from high school at Tasacosa High School in Amarillo, TX in 1972. During this time, she met Vaughn DeWolfe at a youth rally, dated and they were married on August 3, 1973.
LaNita became an Army wife when Vaughn was commissioned in 1975. In the years that followed she lived in Maryland, Alabama, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and twice in Germany before settling in Oklahoma. During this time, she had four children: Anthony in Frankfurt, Germany, Candace in Scranton, PA, and the twins Andra and Danyce in Nuremburg, Germany.
She had a 30-year career in childcare and childhood development, earning her Master Teacher Certification for the State of Oklahoma. Every child in her care was treated as her own, with love, kindness and support. Her abilities as a childcare provider did not go overlooked. The Child Time Daycare Center in Edmond dedicated their facility to LaNita when she retired after 20 years of service.
LaNita’s life philosophy was to always “make memories.” Every day was spent looking for joy, happiness, and capturing those moments on camera. She touched many lives with her kindness and open heart. She welcomed everyone into her home with a smile and always made sure they felt like family.
LaNita is proceeded in death by her mother and father, and her oldest brother, Larry Castleberry.
She is survived by her husband, Vaughn DeWolfe, and their four children and their spouses: Anthony and Erin DeWolfe of Crestview, FL, Candace and William McHann of Oklahoma City, OK, Andra and Andrew Daniel of Guthrie, OK, and Danyce and Kelly Chapman of Wellston, OK. She loved, doted and spoiled her eight grandchildren: Brandon, Ashton, Ryan, Morgan, Lorelei, Mary, Sarah, and Rhys. She also leaves behind her four brothers and a sister, and a wonderful crew of nieces and nephews.
LaNita will be missed, but her legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will live on.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
