Kenton L. Sams

1959 – 2023

It is with great sadness the Sams’ family announces the death of Kenton Lee Sams on September 5th, 2023, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Kent was born in Perry, Oklahoma on July 14th, 1959, to Walt and Jo Ellen Sams. As a child, Kent moved to Lucien, Oklahoma. He graduated from Covington Douglas High School in 1977 before attending Oklahoma State University and graduating with a degree in engineering in 1985.

After graduation, he began a 30+ year career in the oil and gas industry. He worked for XTO Energy for more than 20 years, retiring as a Drilling Manager in 2019.

Kent met the love of his life, Nora, while working at Louis Dreyfus Natural Gas. It was love at first sight. Kent and Nora married on July 10, 1993, just recently celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary.

Throughout the years, Kent enjoyed hunting, traveling, anything near or on the water such as fishing, boating, scuba diving, and spending time with his family. In recent years, he loved to spend time at Grand Lake with family and friends and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a Grand Lake sunset.

Greeting him in heaven are his grandparents and father, Walt Sams.

He will be forever missed by his wife, Nora Sams; son Marcus Sams; daughter Codie Bussard; granddaughters Madison Bussard and Michel Anne Bussard; his mother Jo Ellen Sams; brother Jeff Sams and life partner Claudia Angevine; numerous nephews and nieces; and countless friends.

A “Celebration of Life Service” will be held on Tuesday, September 26th, at 1pm at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Please consider donating to HeartLine Oklahoma in Kent’s memory to help other Oklahomans in need. To live stream the service please use the following link St. Luke’s Methodist Church (online.church)
