starr katherynKatheryn Louise Gibson Starr, 91, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was welcomed into the arms of her loving Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2015.

She was born to Arthur and Lela Gibson on August 23, 1923, in Direct, Texas.  Katheryn enjoyed growing up with three brothers in Texas:  Calvin D.(deceased) married to Jacqueline; Roy B., married to Jean; Arthur L., married to June.   Katheryn met her sweetheart, James Robert Starr in Paris, Texas, during World War II and married there in 1945.  Robert’s homeland of central Illinois called to them and they raised their children  in Champaign- Urbana.  Robert’s family became dear to “Kaye” and she enjoyed the sisterly love of Elizabeth Starr DeNeal who will be 100 in September, 2015.

Together, Bob and Kaye were active at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, Urbana, Illinois and at Fairfield Bay Baptist Church, in Arkansas. Upon moving to Oklahoma City in 2004, Kaye became a member of Quail Springs Baptist Church where she participated in mission activities, Silvertones Choir, and the Timothy Class.

Bob and Kaye enjoyed a wonderful retirement in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas where they loved time with family, friends, camping, boating, fishing, and church. After the premature death of her husband in 1984, Kaye remained in Fairfield Bay where she continued community involvement through Lions’ Club, Toastmistress Club, Telephone Pioneers, VFW, White River Pageant Association, Bowling League, “Happy Feet” Dancing Group, Church Treasurer, and Board of Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home. She also loved traveling to visit family and participating in her grandchildren’s activities. Kaye was always a fine seamstress and continued her interest in beading and other handwork into her later years.

Katheryn is survived by her son, Robert Alan Starr and wife, Jan; daughters, Sandra Kaye Starr Stewart and husband, Larry; Joyce Ann Starr Trigger and husband, Tom; 7 grandchildren: Tony Alan Starr and wife, Geralyn; Chad Daniel Starr; Jeremy Ryan Starr and wife, Susan; Brandie Joyce Trigger Mitchell and husband, Mark; Polly Katheryn Trigger Pola and husband, Shaun; Robyn Denise Stewart Rojas and husband, Ivan; Lauryn Louise Stewart; 8 great-grandchildren: Pieper and Bradley Starr; James and Nicole Starr, Emmanuella Mitchell, Liam Rojas, Jackson Starr, and Baby Boy Pola.

The family is grateful to Kaye’s most recent family, the staff and residents of The Statesman where Kaye lived for the last four years. They are also grateful to the staff of Tuscany Skilled Nursing Center for their loving care over the last 5 weeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children and Quail Springs Baptist Benevolence Fund.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Quail Springs Baptist Church, with interment in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas at a later date.

    To Kaye’s family,

Please accept my sincere condolences for her passing. I began working at Statesman right after she moved in and became instantly fond of Kaye and Kasey. She always stopped to visit with me and was such a sweetheart! I planned to attend her service, yet was to ill to be there.
I will always remember her as one of my favorite people. Please know that I pray for peace and comfort to all of her family.
Sandy, it was a delight to see you visit your mom so often. She showed me photos of her family and was so proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    With deep sympathy,
    Valerie Morrison
