Judy Marie Rhude
1939 – 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother Judy Marie Rhude-Hughey (ne: Hoffman). She was a beautiful passionate, intelligent, deeply caring, Christ loving woman who lived a full life of both love and challenge, leaving an indelible mark on all those that met her. Remaining, are her husband Marvin Hughey, her sons Tom Rhude (wife Tammy) & Andy Rhude (wife; Rezzan), daughter Amy Newlun (husband, Josh), her sister Penny Brown, & multiple grand & great grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins.
Judy was born in May of 1939, the 4th of 6 children to Voris & Mary Hoffman. They grew up on a farm in rural Bristol, IN, full of animals & pets. Voris & Mary were antique dealers & frequently left the siblings home alone with Judy in charge, leaving her with the nickname “the bossy one”. All of them agree it was a great childhood with many outside adventures & memories, with her and her sister remaining the best of friends,
Judy graduated high school and moved to Kalamazoo, Ml for college, married her childhood sweetheart Larry Rhude in 1961, had 2 boys in 1962 & 1963, but still managed to receive her teaching degree in 1965. Larry & Judy moved back to their hometown where Judy spent several years teaching elementary education at her alma mater, Jefferson. Upon the arrival of her daughter in 1971, she stepped away from teaching and started a successful daycare in their home.
In the early 80s with their sons grown, Larry, Judy & their daughter started a new adventure, in Edmond, OK. Larry started in medical sales, with Judy substitute teaching and starting another daycare. They then purchased Daylight Donuts in Edmond, turning it into a successful 3 store business, while serving and helping their community. Judy even added her own “healthy” breakfast muffins and wheat donuts that remained very popular. With their teaching experience, Judy & Larry started donut tours for birthdays and school classes, leaving them lovingly known as the donut lady & donut man.
Upon retirement, Judy & Larry moved to the country and enjoyed the quiet life staying active in church and with friends until Larry passed away December 2013 in an accident. Judy remained there, staying active in church, and remarried in May of 2017 to Marvin Hughey whom she had met through a mutual friend. Marvin & Judy traveled some and enjoyed their time together with Marvin doting on her daily, until her passing.
Since we know she has gone to be with our Father in Heaven, we are having a Celebration of Life for Judy at 2pm this Friday, June 27th, 2025, at Liberty Church, corner of E Danforth Rd and Sooner in Edmond.
We’re asking everyone to wear a piece of pink or red (her favorite colors) in her honor.
