Juanita D. Johansen
1934 – 2024
Juanita Dean Johansen was born to John Lawrence and Hazel Vickers Covington on September 18, 1934, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on September 27th after celebrating her 90th birthday. Juanita lived a very full and joyful life with her beloved husband of 64 years, Karl Robert (Bob) Johansen, Jr., their children Carol Kay, Amy Susan, and Mary Jane, and a wealth of other family and friends.
Juanita had a brilliant mind, being honored as the salutatorian of her graduating College High School class. Thereafter, she attended the University of Oklahoma and received her degree in Medical Technology in 1955, graduating with the highest honors. Juanita returned to her cherished town of Bartlesville where she met Bob, and they married on September 7, 1957. Juanita was very well known as an energetic doer and achiever throughout her entire life. While raising a family, she enjoyed a 30-year career at Jane Phillips Hospital where she taught graduate students in the medical technology field in addition to her work in the lab serving patients. At home, she was a beautiful wife and mother, an avid reader, seamstress, cross-stitcher, homemaker, cook, gardener, and truly the glue that held her family together. Juanita was also a woman of deep faith. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Bartlesville and served her beloved community as a volunteer for multiple charitable organizations. She particularly loved her work with Tuesday House, a Methodist charity supporting families in need with household goods and clothing. She taught each of her girls the importance of giving back to others and instilled in them the spirit of kindness and generosity by her example.
Upon retirement, Juanita was blessed to have enjoyed many years of devotion to being a grandparent alongside Bob, having eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Juanita and Bob felt being an active grandparent was their greatest blessing. Together, they also experienced adventurous travel with close friends and family. They delighted in visiting almost every state in America and ventured off to see the rest of the world together via every mode of transportation available. Juanita and Bob later moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 2012 to live closer to their daughters Carol and Amy, and enjoyed life in their retirement community, meeting additional friends to smile with while enjoying frequent visits with their family.
Juanita is preceded in death by her father John and mother Hazel, her beloved husband Bob Johansen, her brother John Lewis Covington, her sister Joy Grimsley, nephew Lonnie A Griner and niece Tami Juanita Stanley, and her grandchild Andrew J. Madden. Juanita is survived by her three daughters, Carol Womble of Edmond, Amy Foskin (Steve) of Edmond, and Mary Madden (Tim) of Houston, Texas, her grandchildren Michelle Sisson (Matt), Billy Womble, Lauren, Kelsey and Meagan Foskin, Colleen Murrell (Jeremiah), Amy Coleman (Jonathan), her great grandchildren, Mason, Gabriel and Emily Sisson and Adeline, Anita, Elias and Ezra Murrell, her nieces Sheryl Baker (Charles), Marta Amundson (Larry) and Anja Mancano (Dan), and nephews Erik and Mark Covington.
